2+ hour games shouldn't happen!

Of course they are the exception, but they don’t happen only once in a blue moon either. The Hidden Cup game was unique in that it went even to the No-more-wood-on-the map stage, which made it stand out more and more worthwhile to watch. But quite a few games go to 1h:30m or 2h:00 mark, with the last 30-45 minutes being nothing but endless trash spam. They aren’t that remarkable and just feel like a waste of time. There was one game that Viper was casting where he just went afk for several minutes because nothing was happening.

And, again, the problem isn’t that they’re long games per se, it’s that the trash spam at the end is just boring.

All those maps Arabia asyde are not as aggressive as Arabia, and pro players even poibted out that the Map pool was mostly composed of Hybrid maps and Maps that allow for boomy approaches

For the lenght, you can simply check It, but i have seen most game so far, and very few if any ended within 20 minutes

Long games draw more viewers, and the source for that is, again, pro players. See Hera’s video about it

The format also, not knowing the players, helps to not being overly aggressive since it’s less expected what you’ll face, and also push viewers to Watch every single match while you would not watch Hera vs say Ganji after the first 2 games of domination as a round of 16.

HC is a tournament for viewers, but it’s not as good in a competitive sense as many pros pointed out

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the aggressiveness of a map is that tightly correlated with the game length. A long game is just a function of both players being at parity throughout every phase of the game, more than the playstyle the map is promoting.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if the average Arena game is shorter than the average Arabia game. Yes, Arabia can end in Feudal Age or in Castle Age, but with equally matched players, it more often goes to the Imperial Age. And on Arena, not only do players reach the Imperial Age quicker, the game also tends to end relatively quickly after the first player does.

Of course, Michi games take longer than Arabia, but I don’t think “aggressive maps = no 2 hour games” is accurate.

For the particular game you mentioned, I feel like the game is still interesting after 1hr as both players are trying multiple different things (cannon galleon, fire ships, hurskals, rushing the wood) to win the game.

As in general, I feel like instead of hating the 2hr game, you hate more about trash wars in general?

That is accurate. I find long games fun to watch/play as long as there is gold on the map or you’re in a team game with trade.

Trash rams would be extremely powerful in a no gold scenario and could be used to close out the game quickly in a Post-Imp trash war, but the change wouldn’t have a big effect on any other stage of the game.

Yeah you are right it’s not a direct correlation, but it’s certainly true that is more likely to have a fast/aggressive plan on arabya rathen than hideout or gold rush or any hybrid maps because their features are more useful for mid/late game or boom strats

But i was merely reporting pro players in the tournament opinions

Are you implying Georgians is a top level civ? Because I can tell you it definitely isn’t, it has one of the worst win rates

no, I am saying that the civ is extremely unfun

Tbh I agree the civ is kinda unfun

Not quite because of the fortified church shooting arrows. Imo thats not a huge deal.

I just think that the start is badly thought, and I dislike how opressive the Monaspa are while their knights feel mediocre at late game. The whole fortified church bonus I dislike because of how awkward it can be and because I dislike auras but thats more of a subjective opinion
