3 Kingdoms rating has dropped below 50% recommendation for the first time since release

It’s now officially 49% on Steam :tada:

And 100% earned!

It should be even lower without all those reviews which are basically “don’t listen to the haters!”. And don’t forget all the “positive” reviews which are still pointing out it’s not a good DLC.

Hopefully the DLC ends up with a lower rating than the new War of the Worlds.

Woah woah, thats going a bit too far lol. War of the Worlds is a bigger disgrace to H.G Well’s work than 3k is to aoe2 de.

But at least the new War of the Worlds is laughably bad. 3k is just bad.

48% rating for 3K on Steam today!
I expext this to be in stark contrast with the upcoming Alexander DLC, which is a fair but sad thing.

Alex will probably receive good reviews but will sell terribly if BfG is any indication.

It’s a shame EW is getting rewarded for making slop.

WE now knows very well they could get away with making garbage. And it has its shill army to gaslight players into blaming themselves.

What a great time to become an AOE player.

I have played AOE since I was a kid. I never imagined 20 years later I would be told what I cared about this series will hurt the fee-fees of the poor corporate who has to earn their own bread.

I’m always surprised when I read BFG sold poorly. Where are the figures? Because there is a high number of ratings and reviews on Steam (953), which could be interpreted as a success in term of sales (depending on how strongly number of reviews and sales are connected).

more slop coming out soon
I’m staying away from it

Unfortunately I don’t have the figures since you have to pay Gamalytic for access, but I have been told by people who do that BfG’s estimates are around that of TMR, with much higher production costs due to the all the new assets and campaigns. I know that’s not a satisfactory answer, so I’ll go back to my favorite stand-in.

The most common achievement completed for BfG is a “Win a game as the Achaemenids”, at 1.7%, which you can get by playing the campaign. That’s about even with the “Win a game as the Shu” from 3K at 1.6%, lower the "Win with the Georgians " at 3.1% from TMR, and lower than “Win with the Romans” from RoR at 3.7%. Alternatively, the achievement for starting the BfG campaign “Enter the Epic” is at 1.5%, which is close to the most common achievement from V&V “A Most Convenient Death” at 1.0%.

That seems to indicate rates for BfG are below TMR (which has been out much longer), slightly higher than 3K, which has more factions to play, and better (but not by much) than V&V (a DLC which is reviled).

Do remember though that the Georgians were available to play for free for a limited time before release. So that specific achievement is likely a bit inflated.

Probably. We have the challenge of extrapolating from incomplete data since Microsoft doesn’t release their sales figures. Even if you pay for Gamalytic, they’re just public estimates.

I don’t know how much of a comparison it makes, but BtG has been rated 953 times:

While TMR has been rated 345 times:

It’s a good question. It’s hard to know. BfG was positively received whereas TMR was viewed as an overpriced and lukewarm addition to the game. Excitement (positive or negative) tends to draw in more people giving a review. V&V has 1,300+ reviews and is rightfully despised. 3K has 800+ reviews, and as this thread indicates, is generally hated.

Here is the thing.

The positive reviews for 3K are mostly lukewarm and mid at best.

Yes. Don’t forget

some positive reviews actually contain criticism

some people never bought the dlc so can’t leave a review (like me)

Their reviewers mainly complain about the campaign failure.
And some people don’t post their review regardless they are positive or negative for the DLC.

Many are still in the stage of “well this one sucks but I’d still support and encourage them to do better next time”
——like most of us including myself once were. Nothing to be ashamed of
