After 16 years, the Chola navy hoax / Thirisadai hoax has finally been addressed by Indian historian

Inaccurate, but it’s the least (or even most) that they can do. There is not much naval art of Chola, or even nonexistent like Kanisetti said. Even in the caliber of a historian, there is not much you can do if the material simply did not exist. You can’t add a unit without a model.

Two-Handedswordsman and Champion were mostly a thing in Europe and Western Asia. Outside that it would surprise me.
Arbalests were a French thing.
Not everyone had Knights, okay surely an equivalent like Lancers.
Western Europeans more used mounted crossbowmen than horse archers.
Scorpions weren’t really a common thing.
Trebuchets weren’t common at all. Traction Trebuchets were very common in Europe and Asia.
Guilds weren’t that common.

It’s a video game.

By the way, I found this map that depicts all the locations where watercrafts have been depicted in India. I thought this might be helpful if you are researching further on this topic -

Unfortunately I couldn’t find the pictures of many of these locations online. Perhaps they were never uploaded by anyone and are sitting in the archives of ASI or some museum.

I tried a lot looking for Ship Sail Designs for Indian Ships of the East Coast but I couldn’t find anything concrete. Most boats I came across were row boats.

The map is from this paper-

You’re right, it’s just that I wrote it wrong. My bad. The source quoted says “cavalier” instead of “chevalier”, so in that case it would mean horseman and not knight.

Or, perhaps, if there is a future Oceania expansion, it can be resized with a slightly modified sail and used for either a regional Drua, replacing the Cannon Galleon, or a Polynesian UU, the Catamaran. That would be perfect.

Do you have any campaign idea?

For what, specifically? I’m actually drafting a post for a Micronesian campaign idea, and can someday do the same for the Polynesians as well.

The ship needs to be removed. It’s embarrassing to have a fraud, fake history ship in a history based game.

Cut it out, now!

Yup! With the Shrivamsha shield already in development for Gujjaras. The same implementation for Urumi should not have been very hard. Besides, Beserkers kinda do the same thing and are not broken. The speed boost and +1 attack of current patch will not make them any more viable. They should be speed of at least 1.2 tps like shotels to be used at least in special cases to take out siege or give the Dravidian civ much needed mobility to cover ground quickly.

Love the names. It should signify something like they were jostling to become “Masters of the seas”.

I suppose you want the ship to have transport capacity as its unique attribute. It seems unfair to civs that get the unit that Thirisadai should be like the condotierri available only in imp. But imvho, Most players and I myself hardly made thirisadai due to it lacking range as well as speed. When they moved, it would look like the devs managed to move melee pathing bugs to navy units. The ship lacked any uniqueness in my opinion. It felt like dealing with a unit with a bigger collision box than war elephants on water. The ship should have 20 transport capacity as a unique attribute. Nobody plays the ship as Dravidians now. It won’t be missed.

If its possible, with the transport ship changes. This ship can become regional unit for all civs along the orient.

To replace the Thirisadai, the unit that can be introduced is the “Mahout lancer”, it is a unit that exists in AOE3. It can be introduced in the stable for Dravidians.

We can add the steppe lancer gimmick to that unit. But with a 50% pass through damage. The unit should have LOS of 10 to denote its ability to spot enemies at range. The unit could have a coustillier like animation instead of battle elephant one. The bonus damage on buildings should be changed against siege +4, cavalry +4 and infantry +4. The unit could be a more melee focussed battle elephant with same attack, +25 blast radius, +2 Melee armour and 230 HP. But negative -2 pierce armour signalling that archers could take out the lancer mounted on the elephant then elephant will end up collapsing. The animation could also play that out like the ratha rider currently.

Dravidian team bonus too can be changed to elephant +2 LOS or something if need be.

Recently its been reported that one of the OG devs was forced to squeeze in Koreans at the last minute and he couldn’t do justice to that civ. As a consequence Koreans ended up being one of the weakest civs for several years. Maybe there’s some back story like that for Dravidian addition. Either way I don’t think it will be completely reworked as a different civilization with a significantly different tech tree.

Just delete the unicorn fairy tale ship that’s it.

Aren’t there other such unicorn fairy tale units in the game for other civs?

I think the Korean war wagon is such case. Do you know of any other?
