After lastest Hotfix AOE2 freezes alot

After the latest Hotfix (#113358) AOE2 is freezing a lot of times. I’m playing it for the last 3 days and I had at least 20 times the situation that AOE2 just no longer react and even windows comes up with a window and ask it I want to wait for it to return.

In a lot of these freezing Issues the game crashes so hard that the steam application goes bye bye after I stopped the game via their GUI.

In most cases I have to even restart Windows in order for my PC working proper again.

I have no idea how to reproduce that since it occurs randomly; there is nothing I do that I then can redo after loading a save game.

This behavior never happened before the latest Hotix was installed. AOE2 crashed from time to time, but it never froze before.

Every time I played it at some point the game froze. And I had to kill it via Steam or Windows.

yea getting that 2-3 times per game. each freeze anywhere from 2-4 seconds up to like 10 seconds and some people even drop

I didn’t actually personally have any issues prior to this hotfix, but now I’m getting this issue yoy described frequently, in particular with Custom Scenarios. Anecdotally it tends to happen around the 30-minute mark, the game will freeze and then completely crash to desktop for everyone.

In regards to my original post from yesterday, I found an situation which can reproduce the freezing Issue.

If you load the attached save game and wait to 2h07:42 the game freezes all the time. The moment the longboats (Shortcut 8 / in the lower left corner) destroyed the stables the game freezes. I had that situation 17 time since yesterday, I tried a couple of things and this morning I just noted, that if I do absolute nothing at this point is freezing. I tried it 3 times with this save and every time the longboats are done it froze.

I guess is has something to do with them trying to find the next target. Yesterday it froze at similar situations (range unit done destroying something) but I could not reproduce it.

Not sure if it helps but here is another rec with the game crashing (at 30 minutes)

It’s only anecdotal, but the frequent crashes I’ve experienced since the last Hotfix all seem to be within +/-30 seconds of the 30-minute mark.

Yes, I’ve experienced this as well, ever since the “Hotfix” about a week and a half ago

I’ve noticed it only occurs with some sort of ship unit (any ship)

Hope this helps them to fix it, and fix it fast, cause this bug is very bad
