The game worked normally before the update. Since updating, the game crashes before reaching the main menu. The game launches but closes during startup before the main menu appears.
System Specifications:
Windows 10 Pro (Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045)
Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.40 GHz
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER
DirectX Diagnostic Tool reports no problems found
Troubleshooting attempted:
Verified game files through Steam
Restarted PC
Updated NVIDIA graphics drivers
As the issue started immediately after the latest update and the game previously worked correctly on this system, I would appreciate any guidance or investigation into whether the update introduced a compatibility issue.
Y nada funciona! Una perdida de tiempo!
Before attempting step 5, I had already completed steps 1, 3, and 4. So here, it was either step 5 or one of the latter… In this case, I’m using the RTX 4090 graphics card with the integrated graphics enabled, and I didn’t need to disable the integrated graphics…
Update 3: @fr3d7ing In fact, even after deleting the contents of the mods folder and with the INTEL (onboard) graphics card enabled along with the RTX 4090, the problem happened again when I restarted the computer.
The final solution, in fact, was to access the motherboard BIOS and disable iGPU multi-monitor support and disable the onboard graphics card, leaving only the RTX 4090 enabled (PCIE VGA SLOT)… after that the game started working normally again…
So, to explain, I just repeated the steps suggested by fr3d7ing, but it didn’t work. I even tried deleting only the contents of the subfolders, leaving the subfolders themselves. Nothing changed.
Out of desperation, I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game… and it still crashes.
In my case, the game crashes 2 seconds after I click “Launch” from Steam. A nice little white window pops up saying the game has encountered a problem and needs to close, and it even offers to send an error report.
If you’ve ever joined a custom multiplayer game lobby and prompt comes up asking you to install a mod - it would have most probably been unofficial. I’ve been as frustrated as the rest trying to figure out what’s going on so I tried a lot of different things.
This is a the exact order of all the things I tried:
ATTEMPT #1 - Verify integrity of game files - NO LUCK
ATTEMPT #2 - Uninstalled and reinstalled the game on Steam - NO LUCK
ATTEMPT #3 - Checked my graphics card (RTX) was up to date using Nvidia App - NO LUCK
ATTEMPT #4 - Latest windows update: 2026-05 Preview Update (KB5089573) (26200.8524) - NO LUCK
ATTEMPT #5 - Deleted all the custom mods I had stored locally on my PC ie. the method I posted above - IT WORKED.
So basically a combination of two or more of the above attempts made it work for me. I can’t tell you why, sorry.
I can see that its at least helped KingFortimbras so maybe try all the above and see. If none of these work, sorry to hear that hopefully the devs will have a more concrete solution.
After intensive research, I finally solved the problem thanks to fr3d7ing’s help. I followed the link and read the instructions, and I realized the issue could be related to the graphics card. I knew this for sure when I temporarily disabled the Intel graphics. So I followed their solution by installing an update for the Intel graphics card, and then I went into my computer settings to configure the game to run using the NVIDIA card I already have. And after a restart… the game works!!!
All my mods were disabled; I never installed mods, only those that are installed automatically, but never activated. And even without activating them, they caused me problems. I followed the steps the other person mentioned, and it solved the problem for me. I believe it’s some mod or wallpaper from the main menu…
