Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - The Wealth of Electors (DLC propose)

You want every game developer to become EA then? Seriously?

where did you all get this maximum limit info of 48 civs? it’s not an accusation, it’s a legitimate question.

It is the hardcoded limit for AoC (and unlike other stuff it seems very complicated to change) and the game seems to have 9 more reserved civ slots if you look at the strings.

Got it, thanks.
So this means that my suggestion of civ splits is not even possible anymore. For those who don’t know, I wrote in another post that, in order to be consistent with the splits of European umbrella civs so far, the devs should split:

Chinese in (1)Jurchen and (2)Thai;
Burmese in (3)Tibetans;
Persian in (4)Sogdians;
Malian in (5)Ghanaians and (6)Songhai (or adding Kanem instead);
Ethiopians in (7)Nubians and (8)Somalis (or adding Swahilis instead);
Saracens (renamed to Arabs) in (9)Levantines;
and Indians in at least (10)Tamils and (11)Bengalis.

But, as you can see, the limit of 9 civs remaining has already been exceeded

I would just add that both DE DLC are as bad.

Considering that Poles and Bohemians were represented fine by Slavs and Teutons.

I didn’t care for any post TLK civ so far which is kinda sad considering which potential the world still has.

My 9 civ choices would rn be:

  1. Tibetans
  2. Tamils
  3. Somalis
  4. Nubians
  5. Georgians
  6. Kanembu/Hausa (prob the later because I dont think anyone knows about the Kanembu)
  7. Bengalis
  8. Zimbabweans
  9. Honestly dont know. Prob Afghans, Songhai or Thai

Poles are better represented by Liths tbh

The Slavs are supposed to represent them all.Proof:

EASTERN EUROPEAN - the choice was between Huns, Swiss, Magyars, Habsburgs, or Slavs (the latter being an all-inclusive group in which we’d put Poles, Russians, etc.) We speedily decided the Swiss were too Renaissance, the Habsburgs were too obscure (besides, I hate them. I think they were a bunch of untalented reactionaries who looked funny).

While new kingdoms formed from the ruins of the Roman Empire in Western Europe, Slavic tribes settled the rich lands of Central and Eastern Europe and established formidable states of their own. Illuminate your populations with the teachings of Orthodoxy, recreate the rich farming and trade economies of Poland and Kievan Rus, assemble retinues of Boyars and Druzhina to defend the Russian principalities from the Mongols, or lead a charge of Winged Hussars to save Europe from Ottoman conquest!

Some civs like the Bohemians are mostly here because of gameplay, with their unique fighting style. Making new civs isn’t only about filling spots on the map but also giving them an unique feeling that makes sense relative to their history.

Are they really that unique though? They are basically still just Teutons but with good archers.

And theres still plenty of unique civs left to add outside Europe

Slavic peoples cover almost half of Europe while ingame they are solely modeled on the Russians. Better than using mainly the Goths as a placeholder but this civ begged to be split up. They should be renamed as the Rus now that other Slavic civs cover most of other branches.

Teutons ? With better archers yes but also poor cavalry, and mostly the wagenburg tactic, this is what makes the Bohemian army unique. They would have been nowhere near the list if it was not for the Hussites, but IMO were an obvious addition once a “central european” expansion was announced.

“Wagenburg tactic” is literally the same as just putting a ram in the front. They are pretty much Teutons gameplaywise outside of crossbows instead of knights (army is siege + infantry +gunpowder).

And just basing a civ in a 40 year period in which they didnt even hold that much territory always will seem like an stretch to me. Its even dumber that they used castle age chemistry for them instead of saving it for an Asian civ (like the Jurchen).

If anyone had to get chemistry early it would have had to be the Chinese. The idea being the Bohemians having it early is not about chronology but about peasants arming themselves.

Now you mention the Jurchen, they are absolutely on my list, talking about them yielded some cool concepts trying to design them.

I would love to see this DLC come to be adding more Germanic civilizations and improving their central European architecture, also the addition of the northern European architecture set for the Vikings and the Rus as well as the nomadic set for the Huns and the Mongols. New architecture sets always make me very excited!

I think huge umbrella civs could get DLC similar to the Dynasties of India DLC.

  1. (Teutons huge umbrella civ) Glory of the Emperors DLC - Bavarians civ, Saxons civ and Swiss civ
  2. (Chinese huge umbrella civ) Sons of Heaven DLC - Jurchens civ, Khitans civ and Tibetans civ
  3. (Saracens huge umbrella civ) Sultans of the Middle East DLC - Mamulks civ and Moors civ
  4. (Slavs huge umbrella civ) Župans of the Balkan DLC - Croatians civ, Romanians civ and Serbs civ
  5. (Vikings huge umbrella civ) Jarls of the Scandinavia DLC - Danes civ and Swedes civ

Slavs and teutons have already been split though. Furthermore why would either need to be split in a similar style to the DoI split?

I am unable to think the difference between Danes and Swedes.

I think it is a good idea. Let start splitting it by the size of the country. After splitting india I think it is time to split China

I will prefer more African Civs because I want to see their buildings more often in Random games. East Asia will be overkill.
