Because CoH 3 is one of many RTS games set in WWII, and it only covers one front per game within the series…
And AoE Online is very cartoonish…
It had it…it was AoEO, but the fact that it was an MMO spinoff ruined everything…
Like AoEO?…
Well, in the case of AoE 3 DE and AoMR they have a lot of unit variety, but in some cases, due to limitations of the Bang Engine, they repeat animations of generic units…
Yes, probably. Anyway, AoE 3 hasn’t received DLC since 3 years ago… the devs for that game are working on AoMR and AoE 4… it hurts that they’re abandoning it, but I understand…
First of all
we have Company of Heroes 3. But none of us wanted COH3. We just got it. Its not the COH3 any of us wanted. That needs to be clarified. Relic ruins alot of the games it touched. So if there is to be an AOE5. And it is to be set in these Modern war times. As the vote/polls suggest the audience wants, myself included, as AOE4 should have sat at a higher point in the timeline of eras originally to begin with from the original Ensemble studios vision. Before Relic came along. Relic needs to be kept far far far far far away from it. They do not communicate with their community (the word communicate and community is literally derivative). And they do not work on feedback. I dont know whose in their ear, but it aint the right people. And I am over their “experimenting.
By now
Free DLC for variant civs to give back to their community.
DLC with actual Civilisations instead of variants.
New game modes like Crucible should be made free for all players, and shipped as co-op game modes.
Co-op campaigns as featured in the others AOE games.
Without even these basic things, I dont want Relic anywhere near another age of empires game, and I dont want to see their new DOW games, no thank you. They can keep their COH3. I don’t recommend that game to anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature.
However
The original design and release of the campaign for AOE4 gave me a positive insight, what we were first seeing back in 2023 of AOE4 was actually good. And the game itself is nothing short of great. It plays well, the AI is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be on here. Sure its not perfect, but it does play intelligently sometimes, in ways the others don’t. The games far from perfect, but the studio has clearly given up at some point. It is time as a community we stop excusing poor performances, and making excuses for them. They are not the ones.
I think it should cover both. Antiquity to the modern era.
Empires: Dawn of the Modern World was pretty much my ideal version of an Ages of Empires game. The nice thing about this is that the Age ups seem significant. Take AoE4 for example. Imperial Age tend to basically feature a Knight… In gold armour. That is hardly an “upgrade”. Whereas having vastly different ages like in EDotMW, a Tank is obviously superior to a Knight.
Company of Heroes is just a different type of game, the RTS tag in this regard is barely relevant. They don’t have the modern “strategy” monopoly, and I’d love to see AoE take on that era with more economical depth and with the traditional AoE micro we have come to love.
Yep COH3 is so bad, no russians, no japanese, china, all in desert setting. i give it 3/10
ignorant ppl will keep saying we have COH go play that instead lmao, its nothing like age of empires, just capture the flag 0 skill no villagers u cant raid nothing
we might actually be already dead when that happen, as it does seems Microsoft had ran out of funds considering they dont even have budgets for new civs, all variants only
When Age of Empires 2 was released, they weren’t thinking about releasing Age of Empires 4. Everything depended on the market and sales, and only then would they consider making Age of Empires 3, the other parallel title.
Do you know the history of Age of Empires?
If you remember, you know that the Age of Empires series was abandoned by the company and it was the fans who kept it alive! This lasted for a few years.
Over time, the company decided to test public interest.
They started developing and releasing the HD Remastered versions.
Since they sold well, they started developing and releasing the Definitive Edition versions.
Since they also sold well, they began to analyze the possibility of perhaps resurrecting a possible new sequel.
Age of Empires 4 was announced in 2017 and released in 2021. It took 4 years of raw development rough. Obviously, there must have been a period of concept and study of how it could be done; it must have taken a year in that pre-initial stage.
I say it again: If it’s really true that an Age of Empires V is in the initial concept development and preparation for Unreal Engine 5, obviously it won’t take decades for that.
Only if the project is now canceled and abandoned.
Sure, and not even that… when they released AoE 2 in 1999 they started working on The Conquerors (2000) and after that LucasArts hired them to work on SWGB for the prequel trilogy (2001-2002) and only then did they start working on the Bang Engine for AoM (2002-2003)… they didn’t fully develop AoE 3 until 2004…
Not entirely… you have Age of Mythologies for DS in 2008, the Java version of TAD in 2010 and AoE Online in 2011 with its expansion packs in 2012, and then yes, the remasters (AoE 2 HD and its expansions between 2013 and 2016, AoM EE in 2014 and TotD in 2016, the DE trilogy and its expansions for 2 and 3 DE since 2018 and AoM Retold with its respective expansions this year)…
Yes, they can do it in the colonial age, if they want it to be only in Europe so as not to offend sensibilities between 1600 and 1900 (since AoE 4 goes from 1000 to 1500)…
But it seems that not all players in the community think the same way.
Tell that to the Age of Empires 2 community.
They’re not interested in stopping playing AoE2 to play another game in a different period, besides the medieval age, and now the ancient age (DLC chronicles).
Age of Empires 4 wasn’t an absolute success for reasons that have already been answered in several other topics, and there’s no point in repeating them here.
This can be seen in the Call of Duty series itself… where they tried to go into the future, but that’s where there was a history of complaints and reduced sales, thus marking the beginning of a decline at that time.
Most people would prefer to play the old games.
The series’ return effectively began with the Remastered HD and Definitive Edition versions (before that, most players played the original versions).
Likewise, nobody is telling them to stop playing AoE 2, but rather not to limit themselves to just one game or historical period…
Yes, and now they’re going to start going back to the future again… BO7 in 2035, not next year since MW4 is coming out connecting MWIII with BO2, but in 2027 they’ll release AW2 set in the 2060s and beyond, in 2028 BO8 will come out connecting AW2 and BO3 in the 2060s as well, and then in 2029 IW2 in the 2200s…
Yes, I know, but I say this because it’s always said that they “abandoned the saga,” but they simply took other paths between 2008 and 2013…
Since every year, they need to release a new game.
To try and alleviate this, sometimes they bring timeless weapons to their games, or at least weapons that resemble current weapons, but futuristic.
At the same time, they prepare to sell well, or to sell less than expected, as the game comes out… and so they prepare new schedules with other themes for their games.
Sure, they end up reusing the same weapons just by changing the names… those from MW in MWII and III; those from Cold War in BO6, those from BO2 and 4 in BO7 and those from WWII in Vanguard…
