Build Spotlight

Demeter’s Wrathful Gaze Update

This patch brings a few new additions to Demeter! Some new technologies to improve Demeter’s utility, a new portrait, and balance changes.

Players who own the New Gods Pack: Demeter can now choose an alternate appearance for Demeter. Bring out the wrathful side of Demeter by swapping her portrait to the new glowing eyes version.

To opt in to using the alternate version of Demeter’s portrait, you can swap it at any time, similar to other alternate portraits. You can view this helpful guide on how to swap portraits here.

Three new technologies have been added to Demeter to enhance your gameplay experience and available utility while playing as Demeter.

Guiding Flame

Hestia’s guiding flame increases your ships line of sight and attack range.

Harvest of Souls

Persephone enhances your infantry allowing them to harvest souls whenever they defeat an enemy, increasing their damage and attack speed for a short duration.

Hymn of the Wildwood

Pan teaches your heroes the hymn of the wildwood, which allows them to heal nearby allied units in the area.

New Obsidian Mirror Random Map – Tenochtitlan’s Heart

This update brings a new Random Map to players who own the Obsidian Mirror DLC!

Located before the founding capital of the Aztec Empire, this urban map features winding canals and capturable landmarks that drive constant conflict. Narrow causeways and tightly packed districts create natural chokepoints, forcing a balanced aggression in a competition for key resources.

New Obsidian Mirror Cheat Codes

This patch adds two new cheat codes for players who own the Obsidian Mirror DLC.

FALCOR Summons Quetzalcoatl to the map. Quetzalcoatl will fly around the map in their snake form, wandering passively for the rest of the match (controlled by Nature).

Requires owning the Obsidian Mirror DLC.
LUCK DRAGON
Summons Quetzalcoatl from the Obsidian Mirror campaign as a player-controlled destructive force.

Requires owning the Obsidian Mirror DLC.

They need to add Thorns on your Towers and Fortresses from the Thorned Walls tech now that it effects those buildings.

I love the changes overall for Demeter. All of Demeter’s unique age up choices are worth picking now. Demeter with this is now finally feeling like the Greek you want to play for late game economy strength and all age advancements have at least one economy choice.

I just used Spy for the second time in 20 minutes. A very weird feeling. I need some time to get used to it.
Overall, I’m glad Loki is starting to look like Loki, rather than like 3 GPs Thor with free Mythunits. However, I’m still disappointed that there are no mythunit techs. You just get freeone and that’s it.

The ballistics are very strangely repositioned. I don’t understand why they did it.

Demeter was overbuffed.

For some reason, when I click “Build” on a unit, it no longer builds one at a time, but in all the barracks at once. This isn’t quite what I need; I have 15 of those barracks, but I don’t need 15 Throwing Axemen. Resource management has become very difficult.

When I said the Troll was too weak, I meant relative to other Norse mythunites in Classic. Now he’s stronger in his own right, but he’s no more useful than other mythunites. This buff wasn’t really needed. Everything was balanced, in my opinion. For example, if you take Anubis, you could simply add the lifesteal passive Sekhmet to him and get a very strong classic mythic unit in the late game. Now he simply beats all heroic and mythic mythic units at an effective cost. The same thing with Bragi’s rune. Einherjar is now completely broken. I would have preferred more targeted balance changes. Cyclops were already relevant in the late game, then they were buffed, and now they have been buffed again, now this unit is stronger than any heroic and even some mythic units.

Improvements to the most used features in the game, such as A-Move, are always welcome.

Thor has lost its unique gameplay. I’m not sure how good that is.

Overall the patch is good, I liked it.

I wonder what outside of bug/performance fixes that people like the most about the patch.

Do you like Demeter changes the most?
Do you like balance changes outside of Demeter the most?
Do you like some stronger defenses the most?
Do you like earlier Ballistics tech the most?
Do you like earlier Myth units getting stronger when advancing in age the most?
Do like the Tenochtitlan’s Heart new map the most?

Why do you have 15 barracks at the same time? isn’t it a bit overkill?

yo WHAT?! they really give Demeter a glowing eye option! thats so sweet!

i also like the new tech ideas and bonuses for Demeter give her the focus on faster train-time and fattening sounds fitting!

now all have four techs except Hera lol. i personally would have swapped out Sacred Land with Harvest of Souls.

I really like the new Pan tech idea. Hestia’s sounds fitting too.

(still now rework of Underworld Invasion, Sirene and her slightly goofy looking upgrade. x_x also still no increased trainlimit for Amazons u_u)

but all in all a major step in the right direction in my opinion at least! Persephone gettting really strong techs now for the infantry which is cool and makes her with focus on infantry with Ares a really strong choice now i think.

i think this patch for Demeter + the last one with Icarus fix and Hamadryad attempt of changes (i intentionally wrote attempt here^^) i would give this a solid 7.5-8/10. which brings my personal 3/10 Demeter to at least a 5-5.5/10 now. (still room for at least a few improvements, changes, adjustmets and reworks tho but big kudos none the less - whish at least this would have been the release version)

Wow, they gutted Demeter completely. I’m not sure I like all the changes to her bonuses. It takes away from her farming/ livestock aesthetic a little, which removes flavour and identity. The glowing eyes look awful, so I’m glad its an option. She looks like a cyborg. Why not make them more subtle and golden?!

They didn’t gut her, She is still the same play style. What is the thing thats bothering you?

Yea I didn’t like that neither. Which is funny some one here made a glowing eye version of demeter and I liked that more :P.

Does gutted apply if its better than it was before? Or is that another way to say reworked?

By gutted I’m referring the bonuses. I don’t know if the changes are better, but (apart from the gold mines one which was random) they added a nice flavour to her based on her mythology. I feel like they’ve just added in random bonuses that don’t really match her aesthetic. They might be good for gameplay, but they seem random to her is what I mean.

The double vills on farm was just farms 50% cheaper, a very weak main bonus. For reference, Shennong got way better farms-related bonuses.

You have more farms bonuses now than before, both Divine labor and Persephone’s tech boost farms gathering rates now, so i don’t think identity is compromised.

You still have double vills on farms and cheaper farms through Pan too, which is arguably better now.

I would’ve liked if double vills on farms was cheaper tho, 200 food and 20 favor for something that’s not super useful is a big investment early on.

I would like some love for the Avenger
