At 250 wood, that’s equivalent to 2.5 Musketeers. The Musketeer has 23 base damage. The math gives 57.5, but I suggest rounding it down for the sake of clean numbers:
30 damage → 50 damage
Additionally, T2 Outpost needs to have its negative multiplier against vills removed.
This card isn’t used at all because it provides too little.
First, the Post’s attack range and damage need to be increased:
8 range → 20 range (Advanced Trading Post)
8 range → 20 range (Shotgun Messengers)
20 damage → 30 damage (Advanced Trading Post)
No one needs attacking buildings whose attack range barely extends beyond their hitbox.
It also needs to be combined with another card, because in its original form, it’s excessively weak.
Combination examples:
Extensive Fortifications + Advanced Trading Post (All)
Extensive Fortifications + De Redin Towers (Maltese)
Maybe the card could also ship a trading post wagon. Like how the Advanced Mills, Estates, and Market Cards were updated to ship 1 wagon of their corresponding building type. Advanced Docks could also be updated to send 1 dock wagon btw.
It could gain the option to train Aennas from the Longhouse. It would match the card picture at least.
I don’t think it will work. This card is currently at age 1. It’s considered a tempo card for trading posts strategy. But it competes with villager shipments and the resource trickle. This means you’ll definitely build your first trading post before it’s sent out. Its benefits are highly situational. You don’t need to build 10 trading posts in the entire game. That’s why I decided to simply include it in the Map Control card.
Good suggestion, especially for the Spanish who are supposed to be better at getting XP from TP’s. That card would work well, and would be worth sending. Or if the card made the TP’s WAYYYY cheaper instead of giving a straight up free one.
It feels especially foolish against fishing boats. They take one hit from a cannonball and only shed a few splinters. They need about 10 hits or more to be killed.
Having the Advanced Trading Post card ship a trading post wagon would certainly make the card more appealing to use. In the early Ages, it directly competes with villager shipments, resource trickles, and other Age 1 common cards. For such a common card, it really should be better to use.
I was also looking at the Maltese HCC deck and didn’t find the Advanced Trading Post card. Maltese seem to be only Euro civ that doesn’t have the card for whatever reason. They really should have it, no reason why not. It would help them secure trade posts better.
They weren’t given it because they already have a trade route yield upgrade, and because no one—not even those who have it—actually uses that card. No one is going to sacrifice two slots for trade routes that can be lost and that slow down your tempo due to the 200-wood cost. In any case, a villager shipment is more beneficial. Malta, Italy, and other civilizations need to have the improved trading post card merged with the trade route efficiency upgrade card.
Malta also needs a rework for the tower flamethrower card, because it competes with the Age IV upgrade for all defensive structures. It needs to be combined with something else.
I’d be curious to see the ATP change log. A long while ago a lot of Port, Spain, and Otto players used to have ATP decks for certain maps. I remember it being used in high level tournament games because it significantly reduced their cost and forced your opponent to spend for more than 5 pikes to take down your TP line.
I think a few changes pushed it out of the meta. Over time TPs themselves have gotten nerfed. If memory serves a Stagecoach TP used to be worth 4 vills on wood, then later it became like 3.5, and it might be like 3-3.5 now.
Then ATP got nerfed too. I forget exactly what they did, but I think the discount was higher and the hp increase was probably reduced too.
I feel like I remember someone saying it was over-nerfed and it barely gets used anymore.
Are you referring to the Merchant Republics card? Because while Malta does have that card, Italy has both the Merchant Republics and Advanced Trading Post cards.
I noticed something: Merchant Republics used to be available in the Commerce Age and shipped a Trading Post Wagon while still retaining the increases to resource generation. Though it was Age 2 card, which is more contested for deck spots.
I’d pair together Fire Towers with the Flame Throwers card. They fit thematically.
Flame Throwers - Ships 1 Artillery Foundry Wagon; Fire Throwers get the ‘Flamethrower’ charged action which deals burning damage in close range. Also, grants Frontier Outpost; Outposts now use a fire attack within a range of 10
If that’s too much then pair De Redin Towers card effect with the Flame Throwers card effect. Both are Age 3 cards.
