AI is completely broken right now. Even hardest AI is barely aggressive and can be beaten with feudal ram rush. Someone of my elo shouldn’t be able to beat it. I could never beat extreme AI on AOE2.
I agree and I’ve played all the AOE games over the years, it’s because they changed the formula for victory and like myself, I keep tying different variations. My AI must be different, because I’ve tried to build up enough to rush and the AI just wipes me every time. I am a chess type player and think about each group and what they are doing, gotta capture the sacred spots, but get wiped before that age. I watched the AI by using no fog and it is extremely aggressive and much much faster because it’s a program and it does things simultaneously as humans can’t. So I guess you can’t beat it on easy by building up, but rushing hasn’t worked either because it takes much longer to get enough villagers and resources. Going to try picking off the AI farmers as someone suggested, but never had a problem with the other versions by building up an army then attacking the enemy with a massive army. Also, it’s so much more fun to win by watching your hard earned massive army destroying the AI.
You are not wrong, yet somehow the opposite is also true, in that the AI is way too easy as well.
If you can “break” the early aggression it’s an easy win. At that point, especially against Delhi I’ve noticed, the AI will futility attempt to wall up and never show agression again.
The AI isn’t balanced for what people seem to want, on either side of the scale.
the ai tries to attack your units with villagers, so that delays it, they also barely take damage, they garrison in the tc, while you grow your economy, so the ai is not difficult to beat, monoto yes
for fun, I just went and played AOE Mythology and although it took some time, i beat 2 AI . I tried different strategies in AOE 4 and no luck no matter what i tried.
The a.i needs improving it is worse than AoE 2 and 3 DE versions currently. Especially as when it tries to retreat an entire army while you just destroy the whole army as it moves slowly back to base lol
The easiest AI, for someone not accustomed or new to RTS is a bit too hard. Unpopular opinion follows: an easy AI should not rush you. I remember when I first played the closed beta I was surprised at how early the AI sent a small group of units to my TC. If it doesn’t rush you, then it’s amassing a bigger army. If you are new and you don’t know how to preemptively attack or defend, you will quickly buckle under the pressure.
That being said, once you know how to counter those initial attacks, you realize the AI is actually really dumb and exploitable. The gradient from Easy to Hardest is weird. The AI is just doing more of the same. It doesn’t get smarter and use unexpected strategies, it just has a better eco.
This is how the difficulty “curve” should be:
But in AoE 4 it’s really more like this:
we had treaty mode in aoe3de but… noo they had to remove it… best feature ever for players in the situation you describe
