AI bug out sometimes, unsure the reason maybe walling? issue started after november patch.

:arrow_forward: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

 How often does the issue occur? CHOSE ONE; DELETE THE REST!

  • 50% of the time / matches I play (FREQUENTLY)

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. play on Oasis mapsize 8 to giant
  2. have 2-3 AIs, rest players wall both sides
  3. 50% AI will act weird, after sometime it’ll start attacking

AI attack all the time

To my feeling this also strongly depends on the map and AI civs which you play against.

I can’t lay my hand on it yet. The same for the extreme different behavior between moderate and hard on different maps. It could also be related to your own head start.

But AI should differ in certain ways on different kind of maps and always be in perspective to the civ that was picked for that AI and matching as much as possible with it’s opponents.

Maybe you get 3 the same kind type of AI in half of the matches. Something with randomizing the AI selection that then should be corrected.

I find the gap from moderate to hard pretty steep already anyway and personally would love to see some more graduation in that. Yet, I don’t want games of 3 hours anymore too, even not in lockdown mode.

well I put oasis and mapsize in my reproduction steps.

I dont think I have come across this in blackforest yet but definitely in arabia. just not sure whats triggering this.

Agreed. Usually I play 2v2v2(v2) full random maps and random civ (so all custom maps random) as I do like to have a trade partner and at certain times I even have to save his ‘behind’ as he is facing a much more aggressive AI. So it differs a lot. Sometimes I think moderate is too easy while I think hard is too hard for me, it really requires you to get behind that keyboard and use those hotkeys and control groups (which is good too). Then again it differs game by game for me most times too. Moderate is and should still be rather easy wins, so not too much problem there except for complete passive AI.

Maybe in regard to the black forest map where the AI is forced to move clockwise (or counter clockwise) it happens less or not at all, it will prefer the shortest route and probably you also have team together enabled. But if they are more the 'stay home and build walls and towers type of AI, they will only respond on being attacked and then hunt you as target. And that decision might be based on his own eco versus yours.

What is does good now, that not all teams will immediately target your team. At higher levels of AI you can even use this to draw two enemy team AI’s into fight with each other.

So another reason could be that the AI already had been slaughtered and never recovered from it but didn’t surrender yet waiting for you to finish him off. New selectable options for this behavior too.

A bit more graduation in AI levels and used tactics per civ would still be good to pay attention to I think.
So overall my experience with the AI on different maps really is different most times.

Which makes it hard to put your finger on it, which is I think a good thing.
