I donât have all castles memorized, so including civ names would have helped a lot
I donât like them very much⊠Neutral flags have my preference. Like, Czech with Orthodox cross, Franks without Lilly flowers, and so onâŠ
Not individual civ flags but architecture group flags on the castle, indeed unique civ flags on the ground.
The Frankish one seems based on the Oriflamme (âgold and fireâ), which was the Kingâs war banner, bright-red field. Very nice touch.
Some are however hard to read, the gold is far too dark relative to the background.
The castle flag (generic) is the Cross of Anjou which was a major dynasty who once controlled much of Central and Eastern Europe (Naples, Hungary, Poland who got a marriage alliance with LithuaniaâŠ). Itâs not the orthodox cross (a third lower bar is diagonal). As the castle flag is for the entire eastern european architectural style, itâs a poor choice for Bohemia but a decent one for the style (Hungary + Poland). That cross then was adopted by Lorraine.
Orthodox cross :
Their ground flag are the House of Luxembourg who ruled Bohemia at its peak, notably with Charles IV, then the turbulent brothers Wenceslas & Sigismund that ruled around the time of the Hussite Wars.
Also it really bothers me that the South American set didnât come with a new sail design. The Indian set is also missing a king and a sail model (though now that the monk model isnât tied to architecture, maybe the king one shouldnât be either).
But trade carts should, having a chinese dude for dravidians and bengali is a terrible design choice.
It would be great if there is a list of which civi or building set gets which flags so its easier to identify. Also are the same flags used for relic garrisoned buildings?
I forgot the trade cart. Another thing that doesnât have a model for the South Asian set. And probably should.
Indian civis lack a proper UI as well, they just share with others.easiest fix would be to just give them the puru ui.
The Indian set feels so poorly-thought-of compared to the others. Back in HD they didnât even set the garrison flag and snow locations in the castle correctly after it replaced the Middle Eastern set.
These are all flags of the Viking civilization in the game, but the white flag did not appear in the game.
Thereâs someone who thinks itâs a hint to a Scandinavian (I guess) DLC
Edit: just realized it was OP lmao
I like the new flags.
Itâs kinda cool that the East Asian one says âKingâ.
They are adding more and more small regional and unique visuals to the civs. I think they are likely working on regional villager and military unit skins too. Maybe even regional ship models. Could be the reason why they are not updating the sails. Like why update the sails if you gonna give them regional ships in a few months anyway?
I added the names now. and if we know what the flag stands for too.
I really hope so. ships are not on the radar when we see discussions about regional skins but they matter a lot. however, even if the ships stay the same, i agree that we see more and more regional adjustments and I hope that we soon see skins for generic units.
Yes, itâs a nice touchâŠit reminds me of the buildings in AoE 3 that have the flags of their respective civilizations flying above themâŠ
Were Magyars and Slavs switched?
Yes they were. So Magyars indeed have the cross of Anjou.
Looks like this is based on an Aztec sculpture of a double-headed serpent:
This one is the Royal Banner of Scotland, though in different colours. (It usually has a yellow background.)
