Allow artillery to attack ground?

What do people think about letting artillery attack ground?

Mostly to clear trees in maps like Congo Basin or Black Forest. I understand that this might be used aggressively to deny your opponent wood, but is that a bad thing?

I think the biggest issue is that it indirectly increases artillery range. My artillery can attack the ground in front of your army and hit with AoE while you try to get a good attack angle before engaging. It might be much lower damage than a direct hit, but sometimes a few damage on a few units is all it takes. Also it’s a buff to only artillery civs, which is a wide demographic (and not one that needs a buff as a whole. Even though some civs within that group could use a buff, others certainly don’t need one).

It would be useful for freeing units that sometimes get stuck in the woods, but I’m worried that it will end up being used to deny the opponent wood.

Also, the Advanced Artillery card would be incredibly op if it allowed this, especially if you’re facing an Indian.
