An Open Letter to World's Edge regarding AOE3's Abandonment

How dare we hold them accountable. :smiling_face_with_horns:

Will there finally be something then? Because we’ve been without a real patch since February 2024. For the well-being of the players, it’s better to tell the truth about whether they’re going to continue supporting us or not. Because playing a game as it is, full of bugs and stability errors on top of being abandoned, is no fun. I won’t settle for a garbage annual anniversary patch like the last one. Even though the modders do a great job, it’s difficult to get projects on the right track with the poor QoL and stability that the base game has due to the poor development of the original developers at the “DE”.
It would be great not to leave us in uncertainty since I’m not pushing their finger to cancel the DLC. At least I hope they speak honestly about the future of the game.

@GwentMaster2163 Hello Gwentmaster. I have started development on an Age of Empires 3 de mod which adds the Swiss Confederation, more specifically a huge expansion of Ahriman’s original mod. The Swiss already have a pretty unique feel and playstyle but due to my lack of experience and general incompetence, I don’t know how to add custom models for Swiss units. I was wondering if I’d be allowed to use some models from your army skins mod for said Swiss units.

No problem, my friend. You can indicate the source.
Thank you for your recognition and respect for my work.

There is still a need to organize protests and encourage the creation of private mods. The Morocco mod is a relatively good mod. There are still 2,000-3,000 active players in China. Since the game stopped updating, the number of players has not dropped significantly.

Morocco MOD is a good friend of mine and goes by the ID ‘@Aqllakuna’. We’ve been working together for a long time. He has put in a lot of effort, and I believe his skills in graphic and unit design are unmatched in the current Age of Empires III modding community.

It’s sad to see the utter disdain the studio has for the core fan base of this series. AOE3 is mocked and abandoned. AOE2 has fantasy civs thrown in, in a shameless attempt to cash in on a years-old Chinese fad.

World’s Edge, do you realize you are killing the geese that laid your golden eggs? Because your customers will not continue to fund your irreverence for the games and naked disrespect of your fans.

I’d love to see a Morocco [Mod] highlight post on this Discussion board - I’d love to see some images, units, civ summary. Actually I’d love to see a ‘highlight’ post about any exciting mods in lieu of any official news on here

I also suggested to him to post some relevant pictures or introductions. But he is like me, afraid of MOD being stolen. I worked with him on my previous skin MOD. We are actually still working on this MOD now, and I personally think that if it were released now, it would be the best among all similar MODs in Age of Empires 3. There is no dispute. At that time, my early version was directly stolen by another person from Latin America, so I stopped releasing new content publicly. Previously, his Morocco MOD was also randomly packaged and stolen by another person, which made him exhausted. Because the official did nothing about such incidents, he did not want to release new content publicly for the time being. I don’t know if he will have other ideas in the future.

I’m sorry to hear that!

It’s a strange situation as showing the mod off to the main discussion board/discord channel would be great for the community however that can make it suspect for stealing of its assets.

I think the only thing is that if you’re ‘loud and proud’ about the mod and people see all the wonderful work in a showcase, then it becomes really obvious when someone steals it as people will associate the stolen content more with the mod that’s showing the community what awesome stuff it’s doing. I hate stealing and can respect the decision though!

The bigger concern is that if he showcase too much, it might raise people’s expectations for the mod. Once expectations build up, the creator might feel pressured to release it, even though they’re currently juggling several different mod projects.

If it gets released before it’s ready and ends up being stolen or repackaged again like it was before, it could seriously impact the creator’s mental well-being and emotional state.

Gotta love when our hard work gets stolen and support does nothing about it.

Because I am not an AOE3 player, I do not know about AOE3. Until recently when so many things happened to AOE2, it turned out that AOE2 was just the next victim. Bro, I understand you very well now, and I even want to treat you to a drink. However, looking back, the current situation of AOE3 is really a good thing. At least it won’t continue to be polluted, there will be more excellent mods appearing, think of C&C2 and Tiberian Sun, it seems better without official updates.

Yes, you can always download the V2 campaign mod and there you have a couple more civs to play with (Knights of St. John, the Circle of Osseus, John Black Mercenaries, United States of the campaign, Pirates, Native Americans, Black Family State/Falcon Company, the Hole in the Wall Gang, the Japanese and Chinese of the campaign, the East India Company, Somalis, Tatars, Morocco and you could go on and on with the Age of the World mod)
