There are already dolphins, although I’m not aware of them appearing in any official maps.
One more recent addition I missed: “monkeys” that look like chimpanzees. I’m not sure which civs would have encountered chimpanzees (Malians at least, I think), but more importantly – chimpanzees are not monkeys! This is basic stuff, how can they not know this?!
Yes, also… I said that because it’s a bigger attack and more distinct…
Yes, that’s why I always liked the AoE 3 maps, they are very alive and you see things always happening (animals, guards and natives moving around and also stagecoaches, trains and commercial fleets on the trade routes)… that’s why the AoE 4 maps seem very simple to me, although they are just now adding things like points of interest and dynamic weather (AoE 2 could also have points of interest, but I already see dynamic weather as difficult)…
With the arctic hares, I suspect they’ll mainly be used as a replacement for other types of bunnies/hares. Arctic hares aren’t the only white bunnies (even if they technically aren’t bunnies).
To be fair, all apes (including humans) are nested in the Old World monkey clade. So, in a technical phylogenetic sense, apes count as monkeys. That said, the new “monkeys” in AoE2 are clearly based on chimps, so why not just call them chimps?
Probably true, but then why not just call them hares? They can have two different coloured versions of the same animal, like we have for cows, horses, etc.
Wikipedia tells me they’re separate families (hominidae and cercopithecidae), but maybe it depends which taxonomist you ask. I was talking about regular English rather than taxonomic terminology, though.
Also player controlled horses (like the Hunnic Horse) should have a collar like herdables imo.
And riderless horses and camels should give food as well, maybe including Hunnic Horse as a sort of reward for killing it.
Agree, the controllable Horses and Camels should be visually differentiated, while the “Wild” variants would retain the current sprites. The same goes for the Hunting Wolf, found on at least one regular map (Sherwood Forest).
I’d also like to see such change for cheat units War Penguin and Monkey Boy. Photonman and VDML look the same for every player, too.
There could be female variants of certain animals, like Deer, Ibex, Lion, Ostrich, and (Asian) Elephant. And male (Wild) Chickens and Cattle.
We need two types of tapirs (Brazilian and Malayan), capybaras, leopards, hunting cheetahs, dogs a few types, and the addition of lionesses. Rhinos could do with another model, bulls which exist as cart pullers already, and yaks.
this is a list of animals that could be added quickly because they are present in other Age Games. I did not list South america, because the Devs already know what is needed there.
