Animals than can be added to AoE2

Lets make aoe in to zoo tycoon and add more animals than human units :person_facepalming:

Some human units could potentially be implemented as Gaia units

(e.g. Prussians, Scythians, Southeast Asian indigenous groups, African indigenous groups, Native North Americans, Native South Americans, and Australian Aboriginal groups).

This suggestion is made purely from a gameplay and historical perspective,

with no intention of discrimination or negative portrayal.

The idea is to represent non-state or regionally independent populations that existed outside the main playable civilizations,

similar to how Gaia units are traditionally used to enrich world-building and environmental storytelling.

You mean scenario editor units like iroquois warrior.Gaia is stuff player cant control directly.

I think he indeed means units the player can’t control. I could be wrong tho.

American and European bison should definitely be added to the game. They lived in a wide area. It could be an animal similar to a boar or an elephant.

List of gold animal (fox like) that can be added in AoE2

When I started the topic fox were not existing in the game so I put here a list of fox like animal : animal who give gold.

I put animal who not only give their pelt but also who are hunted not for their meat like the vicuna (wool) or the musk deer (musk).

Africa

Fennec fox (desert biome)
Fossa (Madagascar biome)
Serval (savanna biome)

(Already present : fox in the mediterranean biome)

Asia

Beaver
Clouded leopard (south east Asia)
Musk deer (Siberia and east Asia)

(Already present : fox, artic fox)

Europe

Beaver

(Already present : fox, artic fox)

North America

Beaver

(Already present : fox, artic fox)

Central America

Armadillo
Ocelot

South America

Armadillo
Manned wolf (tropical part)
Nutria (Myocastor coypus, temperate part)
Ocelot (tropical part)
Vicuna (Andes and Patagonia)

Oceania

Koala
Kakapo (the maoris hunted them for their feathers)

Guinea Pig

It’s not a god idea to add them in the game because we already have unrealistic giant oversized chicken. Guinea pig have only the size of an human foot, to little for this game.

No, not the tropical part. They live in the Cerrado, which is considered a savannah.

Also, the game should really have some now-extinct animals. Like aurochs and great auks.

Also, the game could have giant river otters as wolf-like or fox-line animals (or as boar-like animals, if people ate them historically).
(By the way, does the forum’s image upload feature keep failing for anyone else?)

Reindeer is already there as a event unit but not added ingame

Actually, I think these human units could work similarly to Furious the Monkey Boy—they can be controllable (from a lore or gameplay perspective, similar to surrendering). However, when they are placed as the Gaia faction in the map editor, they would automatically attack. This way, the developers wouldn’t need to take up a player slot for them in campaign scenarios.

Indeed, the size of guinea pigs is definitely an issue. However, this is intended as a proposal to represent them as a unique food source for the Incas. Perhaps the developers could implement a building or editor object similar to a ranch or livestock pen?

Incas aren’t in desperate need of a unique source of food, they already have llamas. And we can use penguins as well.
Tupis are in much more need of a food source. In the official server I was asking for a herdable for Tupis, as llamas, guanacos and etc. didn’t live in the same regions as Tupis. There doesn’t seem to be any.

The answer is Capybaras!!!

I definitely want capybaras, but they wouldn’t work as herdables specifically.

Wow so great hope can see all

Maybe Alagoas curassow(Mitu Mitu) could work as herdable

Ooh I hadn’t heard of that one.

Back to the topic of guinea pigs (and animals already in the game that people consider too small), there’s a huntable in AoE3, exclusive to Unknown, that is a group of 3 birds as one unit:

Maybe AoE2 could get huntables like that as well?

I like this suggestion, especially since it’s extinct in the wild nowadays. Was it ever domesticated?

As the next DLC is in South America there is no excuse not to put capybaras.

Passive huntable. Special behaviour : stays calm when attacked.

Actually I think it’d be funnier if they were able to attack.

Maybe give them a weak attack.

Any animal may fight back, a deer’s antlers can be very nasty. And go try to wrestle with an angry goose
