Another DLC!

The spikes of the crown are fleurs-de-lys so it would indicate a french king. But the most famous (Philippe Auguste, Saint Louis, Charles V) are represented clean-shaven. Charles VII (the king during Joan of Arc) doesn’t look at all like he would be that one.

For some reason I doubt they picked Louis VI the Fat (amazing king though), who did have a beard

On the other hand the English kings were trying so hard to pretend they had a claim on France, it wouldn’t surprise me if they put fleurs-de-lys on their crowns too

I always thought it was William the Conqueror… Oda ######## and Harald Hardraada. All of them appear as in-game heroes too.

Maybe Richard the Lionheart indeed, he’s already supposed to be the one on the cover of Medieval II TW. Chainmail was also still the main armour at his time, Philippe Auguste did have an early plate armour that saved him at Bouvines in 1215, which is 15 years after Richard’s death.

William the Conqueror is another solid choice indeed, the Normans used full hauberks after all, it really was top-tier armour at the time. He didn’t have any claim on France though, conquering all of England was already a lot to do.

(meanwhile the original artist was probably laughing at how he’ll be confusing us in the future with a generic king)

Imagine being a mediaeval king in the middle ages and thinking about how future generations and historians will remember you. Only to realise that your regal portraits end up being shared as memes on Age of Empires game forums :joy:

Of course too… in The Conquerors it would be from left to right, Moctezuma, Attila and El Cid, then The Forgotten doesn’t have a cover (since it comes from a mod) or rather it has an archer aiming in the distance; then TAK has a Yodit, Sundiata and Manuel I of Portugal and so on…

Yes, medieval kings being remembered by AoE memes and Swedish kings remembered by Sabaton songs xd…

I’m pretty sure one Swedish king is remembered in cooking books.

NEVER eat more than a dozen of these

There also is another that had a tattoo written in french “mort au roi”, “death to the king”

Here in the UK, we have Leonardo DaVinci branded toilet paper dispensers outside the toilets at motorway service stations. Even has his signature on it. If only he could see what great things his name and autograph have gone on to achieve. He would be so proud.

Amazing…here in Argentina we have a candidate for mayor of the ruling party (the justicialist party aka Peronism) in a province in the interior of the country who says that if they vote for him “the people will have toilets where they can shit” (so without covert talk and that crude)…obviously on television the journalists criticized him from top to bottom…
