AOE 4 Has become boring

By boring I mean there is no real battles, everyone online seems to play cheese with either landmark sniping, or holding the sites (holding of the sites can be fun forcing battles, however ppl do these against the cpu’s and thats cheap)…ages was a game you played for the battles these cheap ways to win are killing the game in my eyes. Needs to be a way to quick search games without these types of wins

Landmark forward is a legit strategy as there’s lots of risk involved. It is also quite APM heavy as you usually are forced to support the landmark with units or/and towers and losing them can be deadly. As for holding the sites: Prevent your opponent from getting the sites in the first place. What do you mean with “ppl do these against the cpu’s”?

Are you another casual player complaining about basic elements of RTS because you want to sit in your base building up your economy while being not disturbed for the first 20 minutes?..

no what i am getting at is its a cheap win if your army is out of place, yes you can say what you want about it bad player, should be faster whatever. when 100+ knights come in or 10+ siege sneak in its cheap. towers, castles doesn’t matter by the time you react to the first attack they have alrdy move past your defenses not even touching them and have moved to the next landmark. If you think having that type of play is ok more power to you, personally I think that win type is garbage there is no fight most of the time. As for the sites, I agree with you there that’s a true battle and fight but when ppl do it against the computers its just a lame win because they don’t fight like we do. As for my play style I am normally attacking as soon as I get units and I don’t stop well others build up and make a death ball behind me and just roll the landmarkets and the game is over in 30min that’s not fun at all. My point is I want AOE 2 type battles where we are at it for a good hour with the back and forth

So that sounds like you are playing team games with real players as team mates against AI? Well that’s just an entirely different game then. Shouldn’t it even be possible to alter the win conditions e.g. deactivate the sacred sites win condition? Do that then. If you didn’t see 100+ knights coming (that’s tons of ressources that need lots of time to gather) your either playing extremely long games with no army contact at all or just team games with those giant maps.

I play team games yes, normally a quick match type either with ppl or vs AI depending on how much time I have. I am just tired of fighting the front of players or computers and my allies doing nothing until they have a death ball snipe the landmarks while I am fighting or going after the sites and the game is just over…doesn’t seem fun at all coming from an AOE 2 player, there is no fight, no real team play just cheap wins and I personally hate that. I am just going to stick with playing with my buddy outmatched vs the AI its more fun playing 1v7 or 2v6 more of a challenge. As for what your talking about with changing the win types that’s a custom game and takes way long to fill up if I do old school conquest type, why because the player base likes to be cheap and not fight it out, that’s not my style. I mean if I “rush you” I am not going to tower rush you that’s cheap ill rush you with an army and rams when I finally get that researched.

Tbh AoEIV shouldn’t have existed, at least not just yet. The whole game is like a rush decision. Aside from its fancy cinematics, I can’t find anything worth having.

try to raise “elo” they will keep you entertained

No, tower rush is not cheap, not as it is at the moment. The mongol tower rush (some patches ago) was cheap as it was overpowered. Right now the game does not have an overpowered tower rush anymore. So if you got tower rushed and failed to defend it you most likely lost because you had a match up against a better player.

tl;dr:
I want aoe4 to feel more like aoe2 or aoe3

I agree with OP. I am level 25 noob and I hate playing the game because everything is so static. There’s only 1 correct strat and before you know it, siege kills all. I have to force myself to start up the game because I bought it. It feels so different from Aoe2 when you could trash army win. I really hate the fact castles and TC have such small pop space.

Sure, better players say it’s all great but really if even I prefer playing Elden single player (I dislike rpg) then whowill be left to play aoe4?

@Julian7494 yes, I have stopped mongol tower cheese with my vills but was only left with a bored feeling when enemy resigned because their rush failed. (3v3) I only was reminded of how much fun LN used to be in aoe2 compared to this silly rushing.

Lot’s of things you have stated are simply not true. You’ve already said that your quite new to the game so i think it would be best to watch some videos of good players and then decide whether the game meets your needs or not. Just watch some matches from the recent n4c tournament.

Aoe4 is not Aoe2. It’s a different game. If you don’t like it play Aoe2, period. I’ve played a few Aoe2 matches years ago and found it extremely boring as it takes lots of time until action begins and games end. But just because i did not like its style doesn’t make it a silly game. Just like rushing on Aoe4 is far away from being silly. Watch any other similar RTS and you will find out that most of them have put an even higher emphasis on rushing and aggressive playstyle.

I am a noob because it has been hard to force myself to start up the game since the beta.

But do not mistake me for a noob per se. I have 10k games in aoe2 and aoe3 under my belt and I love to harass vills with 2 uhlans and outsmart with hussar micro. Aoe4 doesn’t allow me to do that because of the weird sluggish input lag.

I never said you were a “noob per se”. I’ve said your not an experienced Aoe4 player and your also saying that. So I would suggest you to play the game a little more before making statements that are simply not true like “In Aoe4 only knights and siege work”.

ive play aoe 2 for years and both starcrafts for years, both of those games have there ups and downs, sc games last about 30m age of empires two could take hours. Now coming into age of empires 4 they are trying to find a happy medium between the two, I get that. However how it stands now its full of cheap tactics that unless you play on the pro level its just cheap in normal play, now I am not knocking the pro players because they honestly have real fights in the game and don’t have these 30m save up time in there 1v1s. but the rest of the player base that takes there time and builds solely one type of unit (knights/siege) and crushing landmarks is cheap.

i don’t understand what this chart is, going to have to google this lmao

He’s saying that there are only 15,6% people with good skills, which is a huge concern. When 86% is low-level it might indicate a future reduction of the current 7000+ player base.

nm your talking player ranking, atm being there is no ladder I have not played ranked games just normal quick matches.

This game definitely doesn’t have much to do in most games. There are a lot of things to focus on, for sure, it’s a macro intensive game, but when it comes to battles, it’s like point-&-click adventures compared to some other RTS games in which micro matters down to the most unlikely of units.

The best way to get battles in this game is to fight for choke points and sacred sites ASAP and move in from there.

Look up C&C Generals: Zero Hour. That’s the pinnacle of cheap win RTS games, but it has fabulous micro battles that go on from 30 seconds into the game until the end, many times without a single minute of peace between players. No matter what, you usually get a cool battle out of a mildly even match up.

So you’re bored because RTS plays like RTS?)
My inexperienced buddy, you have not yet seen how the old C&C were played, where the whole gameplay was based on “boring” fast tactics. If you don’t like cheeses, look for ways to survive them, as this is normal for absolutely any strategy.

lmao I can survive most of the cheeses, you play a huge risk when you do these. I just don’t like seeing it in my team games because it makes age’s boring and its easy wins there is no skill to it. As for C&C that game on any ver is to easy to play full of boring. FYI start I rank Diamond in starcraft 2, Ages 2 I am pretty High up last I was playing that…

All I’m gonna say, is that my experience in both 1v1 and team game QM is completely different from yours (partially because you seem to mainly play vs AI). Landmark sniping hasn’t been a thing since the fire lancer nerfs, and while sacred site victories do come up (esp vs Delhi), they are far from the majority of games. Plenty of my games have involved large army fights, exciting micro, and lots of grindy matches
