I tried against AoE1 RoR extreme AI and I have to say, they are too easy compared to AoE2. The extreme AI in AoE2 can actually keep up with players when it comes to advancing to next age and eco management and they can micro to certain extend but the one in AoE1 is just too slow. I’m always one age ahead of them for roughly 10 mins per age and I just stomp them with age advantage. By the time I got cataphract or heavy CA, the AI’s still stuck with bowmen from stone age.
I know there is an issue with AI being a little bit too strong for new player at standard or hard difficulty. But then the game offers extreme AI that is too easy for being extreme compared to AoE2
I agree that extreme is too easy, and definitely easier than AoE2 extreme.
I’ve played against the hard, hardest and extreme AIs now. I couldn’t really tell the difference between hard and hardest. In some ways the extreme AI seems easier than the others, because it rushes but doesn’t seem to know how to do so effectively. It’s quite indecisive about whether to attack your buildings or villagers, or engage your military.
Also, I beat it without knowing any build orders – just guessing, fairly frequently getting housed and floating resources. Pretty sure that wouldn’t work on AoE2.
