After clicking “Play” in Steam I get a report window without any sign of launching.

:play_button: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

  • 100% of the time when I try to launch the game.

:play_button: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Open Steam

  2. Find AOE2 DE

  3. Click “Play”

  4. Game crashes. No video, no main menu, just dies.

I tried to do everything listed here even though my problem is not AOE4 but AOE2DE https://support.ageofempires.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407642386708-Crash-on-Launch-before-Intro-Video-Game-Does-Not-Launch?input_string=game+crashes+before+launching+after

Also I removed mods from game folder, added the game to antivirus exceptions, removed launch preferences, tried to log off from Steam and restart PC. Also tried to launch in compatibility mode for Windows Vista, 7 and 8.

I got the same error as well, with similar conditions, was working fine before the new DLC. support Ticket ID: 97899

I got a dual config of Intel UHD Graphics 630 and NVIDEA GeForce RTX 2060 with drivers updated.

Thank you for the post! I really hope I don’t have to change my Windows to play again. Hopefully the devs can figure it out.

I have played and bought almost all DLCs, but after the installation of the newest update, aoe does not start anymore. I have the same problem on steam trying to start the game as the person on the top (printscreen). Please let us know, if there is any solution to make it run again. Hoping for an update to fix the bugs, soon.

I was able to enter today, I’m not sure if the Devs did something on their side, but what I did was update to the windows 10, version 1903. My plan was to upgrade to Windows 11 but had that update as pre-requisits, so after installing it I tried and Age2 DE open.

But let me tell you that installing that windows update was a pain, it fail 4 times, stuck 2 more times, spend like 48 hours trying to install it.

Tried both the windows update and this patch: Download Windows 10

At the end was a mix of trying the regular update and the downloaded update and after several restarts Im ingame.
