If the decisions are not based on number, maybe it’s political. You’re right !!
Maybe it’s the community !
See, Age of Empires I has BiBi, Age of Empires II has Viper, AgeOfEmpires IV has BeastyQt. All leaders and emissaries of their community, whose record so far has been extremely clean, to my knowledge.
Now who would be that fearless leader of ours ? Who has the game knowledge, credibility, and people skills to be the face of AoE III ?
Is it the known harasser using bot accounts to send baseless accusations, or the one entering a blind rage every time he mismicroes a skirmisher ? We cannot have the Australian turncoat because he got beaten by WE for the biggest rugpull record.
Now, and bear with me, who’s job would it be to nurture an environment where those profiles are brought back into the fold ?
See, I’m sure you’d rather have us complain about the numbers. Because there are other reasons. And I may be banned for saying them.
Considering their relentless efforts in sabotaging their own business, this tbh might be the most possible explanation. Followed by “some higher ups really hate the game”.
The excuse people find for the massive spotlight AOM is getting now, as opposed to AOE3 which has been removed from official images, is that “it is a new game and has potentials”.
But what was the treatment of AOE3 when it WAS a new game and HAD potentials? Tournament? Civ introductions on the official website? Weekly posts?
No. All it got was a “sorry we messed up native Americans a decade ago and now we have corrected it” pop up that everyone is forced to see.
Not saying the effort itself was a bad one, though the actual work seemed very hurried and reluctant. But there were ALSO a lot of nice features and changes at the release and all along the way. To name a few, major changes to revolutions, new natives, new unique upgrade models. Many other civs ALSO got better representations, and NOBODY from World’s Edge considered worth mentioning on their social media other than a political message.
Very likely they have planned to make the three DLCs (I consider US and Mexico as one DLC split) and then dump it forever from the very beginning, because they thought of the setting as a hot potato, and never thought of changing course in response to market feedback.
TLDR: they are a bunch of shortsighted and incompetent idiots.
I have a personal theory that Mexico got a weird flag because Italy was already planned, and that Mexico and Italy would look too similar at a glance, especially since they use the same architecture set.
In fact, if you look at the timeline, AOE3 has a lot of new content, which is basically produced or started before the establishment of the World’s Edge. Since the haters took over, Age of Empires 3 has hardly had any good treatment. Even if there is still DLC released within a year, considering the development cycle of game content, those are the content produced before TFE and Tantalus.
And the team explained in this news post as to why Mexico uses a different flag:
The Flag
As some of you may have noticed, the flag flying over some of the Mexico Civilization’s landmarks is not Mexico’s official flag. While researching Mexican culture, our team learned that the Mexican flag is protected under a law signed in 1968 by President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz. This law states that the flag, the coat of arms, and the national anthem of Mexico can only be reproduced for official government purposes and must be respected and honored by all people at all times. The history of the Mexican flag’s evolution, however, is extensive and the flag has had many different representations over the years, thus enabling the Age of Empires III: DE team to develop a game version of the flag honoring and celebrating Mexico’s rich history while avoiding the use of the official trademarked flag. The flag created for the game still has the representative white, red, and green colors, but they are placed at a 45-degree angle rather than being parallel to each other. Each stripe has a golden star, inspired by the flag of the Trigarantes: the flag of the Three Guarantees.
The first story has the flag sounding like a clever excuse to pull the episode because it was unflattering to the Mexican President at that time. Such legalities are frequently used as a cover to censor something else entirely.
I can’t read Spanish so I don’t know what the second story was about.
Sure, that’s the “official” reason, because they didn’t want to convey that Italy was also planned.
Cant use the flag that would be offensive! proceeds to make 2 revolts about US interventionalism and 2 others states taken from them
I believe it its just sort of funny.
Wasnt baja irl a pretty minor event compared to many other major revolts and changes to government?
Edit- I agree its just a game but still weird you can depict usa mucking around but not a flag
Yes and no. Mexico lost the war and it was part of the treaty.
After the war in 1848, California, along with Texas, Colorado, and the present-day New Mexico were ceded to US.
But all started with Texas
Ah lol yes, that was really short
It lasted “two glorious months”, with an unsuccesful attempt to claim the state of Sonora
But yes, Walker suffered a lack of supplies and it was forced to retreat
The best possible argument (I’ve heard) for AoMR over AoE3 is probably that AoMR has a lot of SP while AoE3 is more MP focused. SP can sell stuff to people who play for a few hours (maybe like 10-20) before dropping off the map again. Idk though. Also would have been nice if they invested in AoE3 SP like 5 years ago. A Napoleon Campaign would have been epic.
