I think Denmark and Norway were under the same ruler for a while during AoE3’s time period, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’ll be the case here.
Poland might be the PLC, which could allow both Denmark/Norway and Poland/Lithuania to have some kind of mechanic where they get stuff from both, possibly with different bonuses of some kind.

Original, as in: 2005 release? Well, it should be obvious- there was a limited number of civs they could include and it didn’t make it. In terms of colonies’ impact and/or and weight behind them in the context of the colonization of the New World- they couldn’t overtake Germany/Russia or Portugal/Spain.
Greenland doesn’t count?
I wish AOE 3 had more spotlight than just showing some flags. Poles and Danes are nos surprise, given the revo flags in the game files
