AOE4 as of now, have 12 Civs, 11 Variants, thats almost Half Civs as Variants

People have the right to have high expectations, and the game should meet them.

Given that Scottish Gaelic is a language that survives to this day, it would be strange to force Scots to speak English, since even modern Scots haven’t abandoned Scottish Gaelic or Scot languages.

In fact, “Scot” is one of the “Scotland official languages”.

Regarding Scottish architecture, it seems they saved resources by incorporating elements of English architecture (same models). Although the roofs differ, like the “Templar-French” thing.

I hope that building models is all they gonna get from ENG, and don´t be a Variant of them, because it would be “very weird” for the Scots to possess the English Wonder, “Canterbury Cathedral”.

Historically, at least until the 13th century and after the rebellion of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, English and Scottish architecture were similar (David I influence), as they shared the Norman style. This alone, and the fact that they are on the same island, would justify their resemblance or use of similar models, at least in the early periods… But Landmarks, they MUST BE different.

UPDATE: "I’m going to examine more closely whether there are any unique elements of Scot Architecture that should be reconsidered when deciding whether or not to use a similar architecture to Eng. I think this could even be a topic for further discussion in its own thread later on. "

It’s somewhat reassuring to know they said this DLC would have “2 Base Civs,” so I guess neither is a variant.

I agree completely. They will share the English aspects of good food economy and strong infantry and defense, though without a hint of its archery.

About being a English variant languaje:

I mean, there were already people who suggested the Scottish as the English variant, and the reception was generally NEGATIVE.

About Scottish languaje:

I hope the Scotts talk Gaelic or Celt in Dark Age (I) and Scots in latter ages (II-III-IV), because nowadays Scot is a talked languaje in Scotland.

If the Scots, who are playing this game, see that the Scotts of AoE4 didn´t speak Scot, but old English, I don’t think they’ll feel comfortable.

Well, officially, they put that in the DLC page that the Scots gonna have new Voices, so i suppose they gonna speak gaelic or Scot.

Two new civilizations: Vikings and Scots, each with distinct systems and evolving playstyles, as well as new architecture, masteries, music, and “VOICES”.

So, they gonna have new voices, “I suppose”.

well, i’m hoping to be wrong, in fact i prefer to be wrong in these cases

i’m calling its 20$, any less would be a shock

It has to be a new civ; variants don’t have masteries, new music, or new architecture.

Whether a civilization is symmetrical or asymmetrical does not indicate whether it is a variant or not, but rather its significance in history and whether it is independent of other civilizations.

The concept of variants has always been somewhat controversial, and it’s good that the devs have decided to go with unique civilizations this time.

We can rest easy then…Scots have to speak Gaelic (like in AoE 2) and Vikings Norse (like in AoE 2 and AoM)…
