AoE4 is less interesting than AoE2 because its units lack ‘coolness’ and ‘personality’

In summary, age IV units are GENERIC, age 2 units looks pretty good and very detailed, looks medieval while age IV units looks ehhh Disney

who would’ve thought that scaling the units that were textured for super tiny scale to 2x the intended size (this isn’t the actual ratio btw, just my speculation based on evidence) would look like, to put it a bit more mildly, looking at it with 70% blindness (for anyone thinking idk what that would be like, i fall pretty close to that % myself, well aware of what that blurriness looks like)

Really wonder how a company like Relic completely fails to bring any detail or coolness to Siege units considering their experience with CoH3. Despite the dumpsterfire that it is now, there is still an extraordinary amount of detail in in; details which AoE4 is thoroughly lacking.

The only Siege unit in AoE4 that is even remotely interesting is the Nest of Bees. Really wondering if they messed other Siege units up on purpose so people would go play CoH3 instead. Shameless waste of development.

Ribauldequin, Culverin, Cannon, Springald. They really couldn’t have made them any more interesting?

And that the Nest of Bees was taken from the Nebelwerfer of CoH 1…

Yes, and it’s a shame to be honest…

Siege still go “poof”…
Someone got hit by a cannonball just like he took an arrow in the knee…
Most siege still clip into terrains…

I wouldn’t attribute these to some “specific style they went for”, or someone would “personally prefer this”. These are details that they ignored (or a safer way to say it: haven’t had the time to attend to yet). Because AOE4 itself has variable death animations for units. Idk why siege is largely omitted.

Even AOE1/2 with their 1990s sprite-based engines tried to make those units as impressive as possible.
Like they couldn’t really interact with the environment of course. But they had detailed collapsing animations…explosion and dust effects (sprites of course)…and loud “mechanic” noises.
