Oh right so everyone has to have the same opinions as you after playing a game, like, as if your opinions were objectively true and undebatable? What a mature argument lol. I have played all AOE 1, 2 and 3, and I still have a different opinion, is that even legal?
What’s ironic is that it’s you who’s trying to shut down other people’s opinions. There are already plenty of posts in this forum crying for manned siege, so I just voice my opinion, provide my counter reasons against that, to let them (and you) know that not everyone wants manned siege.
Exactly, and that’s one of the reasons why it would be unacceptable to have unmanned siege for games like Total War but it’s acceptable for games like AoE. Total War has all the economic and management stuffs in the high level turn-based map, and when you go into the battle, you only have the battle to care about, so they can easily add very fine grained details like how a crew operates a trebuchet. For AoE, it would add more distractions when you’re not only managing the army but also the economy and city building at the same time.
Yes, but smaller siege weapons fit well with humans. It’s very clear visually.
Im optimistic that AoE4 will get some with some new increasingly asymmetric civs.
For small siege weapons like the 2nd one in this image
I tend to agree that it might be more acceptable to add an operator, because it’s basically just like a large crossbow with wheels. It’s different from larger siege weapons like trebuchet.
I think siege crew sliding on the ground while turning looks less silly than a possessed machine move by itself as if pushed by invisible ghosts. I prefer the less silly option.
I do, but its not a big deal, since it wont look that bad. But looking manless siege is horrendous, at least for me, in stress beta I got very confused with siege, could not tell which is mine, ally or enemy
How is that even an opinion. If something is present in every previous game, why would it not be possible to be present in this game with more advance technology?? Lol arguing if a black kettle is black lol How can you say something is not possible when it’s done before several times
That’s like saying “I bet that person can’t drive that car” when he has driven the car several times before lol
You wanting no manned siege in the game is a different thing. That is your opinion I respect.
But you said
Bro why do you even have to think about it. Just go into AOE II, III and Mythology lol. You are acting as if it’s a totally new thing to the AOE franchise. If you think the manned siege in those games make the immersion worse then ok lol
But here you are talking as if it’s never happened before when it has many times.
This is from AOE III.
So by calling a black kettle orange, that is not opinion. You are distorting the pst lol
No one shut down your opinion. What they clarified is that you are speaking as if it’s never been done and it has. That’s not opinion. If you had made a post why you don’t like the manned siege in all the previous games and you are glad it didn’t happen in this game, that’s different LOL
Imagine me arguing “A lion can never be yellow. It’s impossible, imagine how cartoony that would look!” And someone showing me a picture of a lion going “uhm, it’s yellow bro” and me going “broooo stop shutting down my opinion!!!”
What people do as a trend in this forum post, is that because they think manned siege is irrelevant, they start acting high and mighty by insinuating that everything they ask for is top priority, not opinion but fact, and others opinion should be treated with a a grain of salt and only consider their opinion. Buecause it is THE ultimate opinion. The others are just fluff.
That is arrogance to the highest degree, not opinion. You thinking something is irrelevant is as subjective as they thinking it is relevant. But you deciding your opinion is what matters while others are just fluff is arrogant and offensive. Not opinion.
People who advocate for manned siege on this forum dont go shutting down your priorities or disagreeing.
They even go as far as telling the mods to shut down forum posts they don’t agree with. Because they dislike the post. So glad they are not mod. Andy is amazing and objective and I appreciate him a lot.
The reason why it becomes an argument isn’t because it’s between people who like or don’t like manned siege.
People have to end up defending themselves as to why their opinion is not fluff but yours is absolute fact. Aka they have to argue a community guidelines while others are breaking them.
“Topics here should matter to us and they should matter to you to” . Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them”
When it’s clearly been a trend on these forums for people to say that all graphical detail posts are just fluff and irrelevant noise. And the people who are saying them are just haters or people who should be ignored.
Again if your opinion is manned siege does not look good in previous games, that’s all good.
If your opinion is that it’s impossible, then that’s not opinion. K cool.
I definitely don’t advocate for 100% manned siege.
Things like the trebuchet, the bombard cannon, the springalds and the ram all don’t need men. Catapaults has traditionally been without men so that’s fine too. Though smaller cannons I’d rather they just rip it straight out of AOE III. And maybe just have a Soldier standing behind nest of bees, organ gu.n.
And I wouldn’t have minded little tiny ghosts on the ships tbh. But honestly at this stage when you are scraping for things done in, the past, asking for new things is definitely punching above the belt unfortunately.
Though many people don’t like the golden ghosts, I actually like them lol so I would t have minded if the manned people were golden ghosts lol would have totally integrated in the art style
I’m suprised that among all issues and (potential or confirmed) disappointments artillery is a topic that among few others caught the most attention.
At the end of the day I’m perfectly fine saying ‘I don’t care one way or the other’, but at the same time I think having more believable and detailed models, animations, paying more attention to historical realities and real nature of warfare- having them being operated by humans just looks better, and at the end of the day I don’t need another justification. Especially as someone playing mostly solo/coop vs AI modes.
Better looking and more immersive and no real downside to that.
Outside of having to put more work into models, animations, scripting etc. lol. But this ain’t 3-person indie studio, nor AoE IV is a 10$ game.
It was a great change in AoE3. Adding all these people to foundry units, that is.
I don’t follow the ‘what happens to crew’ argument either . When the siege is destroyed, their men will die with the unit since they are part of it. just like they did in aoe2/3/m. whats so complicated about it?
If we ever we get mane siege, it will be sure to interess people that the developper man ship after, just for the epic of invading other players ships, whit units that other players chose.
Man, it would have been epic to have manned ships. Tiny men on ships shouting and attacking other ships. Sure, there is a possibility that it could fail, but as I said, AOE is a big name, they can afford to take risks. If the idea fails, they can perfect it in AOE5, but everyone would have appreciated that they tried to bring some new innovative gameplay. If everyone played safe, we wouldn’t be in today’s technological advancements.
You clearly haven’t read through my post. Go read again, I don’t waste time debating with someone who doesn’t even read the other people’s points.
What are you trying to prove with these images? Manned siege weapons did exist in AoE III? I did literally mention it in my post and these images actually showed my points. Look at how the man slide on the ground when the cannon turns around. I won’t repeat what I have said in previous posts and comments anymore, scroll up to read again.
It’s an all or nothing argument basically. Either be completely realistic to the point where the men are walking and pushing the siege, or none at all. Which is fine if that’s what he thinks, I have no problem with it.
And his reasons don’t extend to single player and campaigns which is common for people who want simplicity to argue. Because they are just focused on one aspect of the game. An aspect where settings can easily be turned off.
