Ninjas as we know them aren’t medieval, the look is taken from theater stage operators from the Edo period, that only got associated with assassins when one stage broke the 4th wall by having an actor dressed as one to murder a character, coming from nowhere as spectators knew they were supposed to ignore stage operators if they saw one. And the classic weapons of ninjas are very silly.
Real ninjas mostly were spies, often posing as peasants, as they’d do everywhere else. So, technically already covered by the spies tech.
i’ve read somewhere that they would often pose as merchants/monks/doctors, because they had plausible deniability when travelling. as a peasant with a different regional accent you’d stick out like a sore thumb.
In any case, he’d try looking and acting normal. Certainly not sneaking around in weird dark clothes with a pair of small swords and throwing stars (which wouldn’t do much anyway against a properly equiped soldier…). Just like no modern spy would have the trench coat, hat and sunglasses from old movie, complete with a silenced gun.
Well I get your point. But i feel like as both the Koreans and the Chinese now has a naval UU, it’d be a little weird if Japan as a naval civ didn’t get one
I think their Imperial Age UT the Kataparuto needs to be replaced.
The current Kataparuto tech is neither historical nor fitting with their infantry theme. Therefore I propose the new Imperial Age UT Daimyo as a replacement of Kataparuto. It would cost 600 Food and 400 Gold to research, and the research time would be 60 secs. After researching this tech, their hand cannoneers would gain a blast radius of 0.5 with tapering effect, and their UU the Samurai would gain +3 bonus attack against Siege Weapon.
Extensive pop-culture presence. Also, while the game defines everything, from duchies, to tribal ethnic groups, as “civilizations”, Japan is in fact a separate and fairly unique and visually distinct civilization by every definition.
