Auto deer push

What are your thoughts of adding auto deer push option?

Auto deer push would probably be the only way iā€™d ever be able to push a deer, but still iā€™m not a fan of the idea; I like that being a high skill mechanic personally. Scouting and farm placement are things you have to do that the automatic function makes quicker so you can focus on other stuff you have to do. Deer pushing isnā€™t something you have to do, but gives you an advantage. Things like that iā€™d rather not be automated.

Its the meta now, most players do it anyway. Why not provide an option to automate it?

Iā€™ll be honest I donā€™t play much multiplayer myself, I mainly play campaigns and watch tournaments. I know among the top 100 players its meta, but is it even meta at like 1600? Iā€™m still kinda opposed to it because of the skill element (even auto-scout still provides the skill element of scouting as manual scouting is far superior to auto-scout if you can pull it off) but I might be slightly less against it if even mid-level players are doing it.

Though the programing of an auto-deer scout function would probably be way harder than auto-scout, given the dynamic behavior of the deer, even if you look at auto-scout it follows a similar pattern every time; canā€™t depend on that with the deer.

I am 1200 and see deer pushing in almost in every game, I would say even 1000 elo and above push deer now a days

The AI already does it. It could be a hot key on the scout and the scouts does what the AI does.

Now that I think about it, the AI controls Gaia too, so it could be as simple as the AI putting a follow command for the scout to follow the deer, and then the AI intentionally walking the deer to the TC or something.

They should remove deer push. Itā€™s kind of an stupid mechanic that people donā€™t like to do but they do just to get an advantage.

Deer pushing is a really dumb mini game you have to do every match. If it is going to be in the game, it might as well be automatic. Deer pushing should be made impractical or impossible instead.

Im 1400 i see deer pushing every game. I think it is stupid, not intended deer behaviour by design. Just make the deer unpushable, whoever want to take a deer just make a mill. Btw i play Chinese so deer pushing is a must. They need to remove this mechanic and buff chinese in terms of food availability early on

This will make laming OP. Thats why I prefer to make deer pushing autiomatic, if pros want to push in a certain way let them. The noobs and the average player can use this auto quality of life feature. Or something like age of mythology, a tech to attract the deer near the TC. 50 wood and your deer migrates to your TC.

Itā€™s already too easy to herd all the animals you could ever want to your TC. I donā€™t know what ā€œauto deer pushā€ is, but have a feeling it involves getting behind deer and pushing them to your TC.

If so, can we preserve at least one last bit of randomness in this game along with associated skill, and not automate it? This game has become a meta robotic to-do list, complete with HUD tactical overlays to show us exactly how far towers shoot, and various other streamlined mechanics to make AoE life easier, more robotic, and to level the playing field for everyone. Just a few more ā€œautosā€ and streamlines and Iā€™ll probably be able to beat Viper and Hera, lol.

If anything, I say make the deer and other animals even harder to corral ā€“ especially if people are exploiting something to push deer to where you want them. Deer arenā€™t sheep, and Iā€™ve always loved their random (wild) behavior, and that they are harder to corral and use for food than sheep

Pre-queueing Villagers or upgrades (like in AoM) might be nice, but auto-deer pushing seems too specific.

Honestly I dont like that early game deer pushing is so important rn (its fairly stressful for the bad player like me, it makes the dark age less enjoyable and its not as rewarding, straightforward or as interesting as boar luring)

But at the same time I think theres a diference beetwen QOL like farms around TCs and this. I would rather not get this nor boar luring but asking for auto deer pushing is a bit weird when boar luring isnt in the game yet

I think some prople here have a point about the deer luring boring aspect.
Anyway, auto-luring sounds as the worst way to solve it.
As I said in others topics, the problem is the high cost of the mill and the short distance between deers and TC.
What if would be more deer packs spreaded in the map, and a new eco building would be added:

The Hunt tent.
A hunt exclusive gsthering building.
Cost: 50W
Built in: 15s
HP: 250 / 400 / 600
Armor: 0/0
LoS: 8

Interesting idea. It could allow lightning fast feudal time. Everyone would do the build of tent hunters into lumberjacks without any need to chop wood in dark age.

On the other hand, it is the perfect target for drush. So the timing of hunting / drush would swing the game a lot.

Overall likely more variety for dark age.

On most maps, deer are not worth the additional 50 wood. Only being used for hunting further reduces the need for such building. But if there are many deer or no sheep, even a standard Mill may be worthy.

Iā€™m personally more interested in being able to take the deer body back. Allows a hunter (or scout) to carry a dead deer and move, so that other villagers donā€™t have to waste time moving, and there is no need to micro-control the scout to push the deer. A unit carrying a deer must put the deer down before it performs commands other than moving and garrisoning, just like a Monk carrying a Relic. Perhaps the same logic would have allowed villagers to carry dead sheep and boars, even though there was less demand.

The problem I see with your idea, is that keeps giving too much free food under the protection of the TC.
The tent mechanic instead, give high reword for leave the TC security area.
Of course, maybe tent could be even cheaper, or number of sheeps could be reduced to 4+2, or 1 boar near TC instead of 2.
A map closer to Nomad, in terms of free food available and its location pattern.
