Auto-farms?

I.am.TOTALLY.Against.Auto.Farm

This is not even a discussion, a revised version of farming should be implemented. I bet most people here, like I do, play the expansion rise of Rome. This expansion altered features of the game such as unit generation, you could queue up units. This is similar to how farms were altered moving from aoeRoR to aoeII conquerors. So to all the people saying they aren’t willing to put up with change for the better remember you already have chosen an altered and change version of the game. As for the revision it shouldn’t just go to farming, all resource gathering should have quality of life improvements whether it is villagers automatically gathering resources once they have built a depot such as a granary or being able to select idle villagers and fishing boats once their tasks are complete with one easy button. These features do not lower the skill ceiling, they lower the skill floor and barrier to entry so everyone can play the game and not have to suffer from the now 20+ year old design mistakes of the original. This game is a remaster, not a HD remake. Change is allowed, and should be encouraged.

i want to autoqueue alle economical building.
i want to look my game and have nothing to handle.

i just want to select my army and decide when to attack.
not even sure… after all a game where we just have to press “ok” button on the victory screen would be better.

we are in 2017 we shouldnt do boring stuff as producing unit, building stuff, moving army, micromanaging units.

we should have 3 button with 3 strategies click the one we want , take popcorn and watch the result

do you guys realize how ridiculous it is to invoque “modernity” and automatisation?

if the game is boring for you, just rent a dvd or play chess.

if you want age of empire2 feature go on age of empire2 forum.

this is age of empire1, not age of empire4

@Tgaud post is hilarious so I am just gonna do what he did but the reverse for fun (I’m not trolling tgaud I think his post is really good haha)

i want to have purer old-school experience

i want to play text-based aoe where i input commands into MSDOS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\>CDageofempries CREATEFARM.exe

i want removal of drag feature for selecting units and demand only one unit selection per time and no scrolling screen scrolling must be in MSDOS command C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\>CD SCROLL LEFT

i want removal of menus and title screens, opening aoe executable should immediately begin 1v1 on maximum difficulty, no options, options are for 2017, if you want options go to hair salon, choose haircut, if you want menus go to restaurant, choose food

if you want age of empires 4 go travel in time machine, now is time for age of empires 1998

In the old AOE where 200 population was limit you could handle the army and the economy somewhat well, but if AOE:DE increases the population cap then it start to be impossible to be at every place to click buttons just the right time.

You wont lose any choices by allowing auto farm seeding. You just give the possibility to make the action earlier.

The question is not whether we want full automation or full manual tasking. No one wants either of those things and no one is arguing for them.

Do you want villagers not to automatically bring resources to the drop off points? Or would it be better to always have to order them to drop off resources once they reach their carry capacity?

We all want some automation and we all want some degree of manual tasking. You say it’s ridiculous that someone would want the balance between automation and manual tasking be different that you do. Well, it’s not.

You have even argued for gather points, which is a form of automation. So why it so outrageous if someone else argues for some different kind of automation?

Is this really a question? This was the most ridiculous thing in AOE1. I would also prefer walkable farms, but I know AOE1 fans would kill me for that.

But seriously guys. Those who say “DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH MY PRECIOUS DEPRECATED FARMS”. Are you really satisfied if the game gets a graphics update and that’s all? I think most of the “dumb” features of AOE1 were due to hardware limitations. I’m not saying we should change everything. Almost every aspect of the game is perfect just as it is right now in ROR. But some feature to make it modern would really appeal to people who are not fans of the game. Do we really want to satisfy (idk let’s say) 10% of the players who want everything untouched? Or the rest, who wants a quality game experience. Sticking to 90’s technologies just to sit on the nostalgia train one more time? But then why make the DE?

Let’s improve the flaws, and keep the good features (and improve them to make them even better)!

EDIT: AOE1 was the first game I ever played as a kid, and I have played several dozens of hours with it, and I play AOE2 HD on a daily basis

I agree. I have RoR and it’s a great game. If the Definitive Edition was not going to only change graphics, I would be perfectly fine with sticking to RoR. To be worth buying, DE needs to modernize the gameplay, which I’m happy it’s going to do to some extent. Reseedable farms are another step to that direction and I would like to see it added too.

If you want an AOE1 version then I suggest you go play AoE1. Get UPatch. It’s also not an AoE1 remake - if anything, it’s a RoR remake.

@Tgaud As some already mentioned: If you want everything kept original, than why are you interested in the DE? Because it changes at least the graphics and that´s not AOE 1 anymore as we know it. And also some animations are a bit different, as you can see in the trailer. Also they stated already some changes, which modernize the gameplay. So it´s already not the original AOE and they could remove the annoying stuff. I understand many of the complaints of the nostalgic people, but the changes so far are good and there is still enough space for micro, macro, strategical and tactical moves and decisions, also in the economy. I really hope auto-farms will be in the game, because it was annyoing to babysit the farmers and it is unfair that some civs without certain market upgrades have to care much more/earlier during battles of their farms than others. Also walkable farms would be great and if not they should bring back that cool house on it

rhe prpblem is that what you call annoying stuff is not. its the core of the game.

i wqnt everything improved as lpng has it doesnt change the way the game is played. i dont want any complexiry to be removed.
graphical is one example
network improvment, musoc imprpvment, all that is ok.
but of you change the way its played just to copy pthers RTS is not age of empirre 1 anymore.
age of empire 1 is a whole identity its not only stone age.

@“Decius Flavius” I heard there was a confirmed Classic mode to go with the game ^^

@“Decius Flavius” True, i think that was the compromise, much to the dismay of many

You do realise that whether the farms are the same or whether they are changed changes so little to the mechanics of the game as a product. The game is about combat between a group of players or AI. The farming elements merely take away from the theme and slow down the process. Yes farms should be in the game I am not trying to argue against them, however if you want to control everything like that why are you playing aoe when you could just play farming simulator? In the end if you don’t like the changes they make aoe still runs on windows 10 so you can just go back to it. I’d much rather see new players get engaged by a new product that has the capability to bring old fans back and new fans in. If you want the franchise to die then encourage a lack of change, if you really love the franchise however you would want change because no one will buy a reskin when aoe HD mod works really well.

I’m not sure everyone here realizes that AoEDE will offer the original 1998 version with all its rust, warts, and evaporating farms.

I hope the upgraded version brings farms up a notch so we don’t have to constantly replant them.

I know, but maybe the road AoE2 HD took, is the road AoEDE should take as it’s not the original game anymore, balance should be issued, annoying features should be fixed, and new features should be added.

no one will actually play it
