Yeah but its not like your scout can get hit by lightings or something. It does give advatege and take care that the scout doesnt die.
So it means if you micro you scout very good then you get an advantage wich seems fair

I think in the Laaaaan vs Yo game on cross, people were saying Yo also saw a villager going to build a sneak dock because of auto-scout. I didn’t notice it myself but others could confirm.

I guess if a player keeps an autoscout alive it can turn into a (nearly) explored map relatively quick - like by early to mid castle maybe? At that point though you could use palisade wall tricks, either placing around golds/woodlines or palisade scanning. You wouldn’t necessarily need the autoscout to find things.

It did look like in that Laaaan vs Yo game, both of laaans autoscouts just starting following nearly parallel paths, like they just kept moving together. Two autoscouts might not be much better than one at present - maybe a wider line of sight.

Often it’s not about micro, e.g. when it’s an even scout fight and it’s just RNG who wins. Even if it is because of poor micro, it’s already enough punishment to not have info on your enemy, never mind for them to be able to scout all the extra resources with 1 click.
It’s impossible because the way LOS works on the engine means it can’t be “hidden”. In any case, most of the time my opponent has not noticed my auto-scout or reacted and killed it so most of the time your suggestion wouldn’t change anything.
Is there any particular reason you are against having it on a timer?

Throughout the Red Bull event and qualifiers auto-scout has turned most games into explored maps, discovered sneaks etc. Imo this should not be in competitive games as it just ruins strategies and can be abused to find vills on extra gold as you said.

it could be hidden if the scout became gaia etc
 and would transfer back and revele smaller los fog of war of the map that it scouted

I think the auto scout is a good practice tool in itself. Alot of times the ai picks some very interesting routes where you might manually copy in another match. It helps macro play for me as it will eventually go close to a curious spot on the map and then you just take control. It’s not a hindrance to gameplay i think it enhances it for newbies to the average skilled, it gives us leverage against higher skilled players sometimes one less thing to focus on as we build

yeah i agree :smiley: with any change there will always be haters. most of the changes are good for comunitiy growth wich is always good for AoE comunity

Calling people “haters” is for disliking a feature in a thread asking for our opinion is stupid. If a noob wants to use auto-scout for the first 5 minutes or so, I don’t mind. It becomes an issue when it’s affecting competitive play, for example in the Red Bull tournament, Liereyy’s auto-scout found TaToH’s forward villager.

That wouldn’t work for a few reasons:

  1. Gaia has other LOS such as boars, relics, eagles
  2. How would it know which scout belongs to which player
  3. There’s no way to distinguish which scouting is from which unit

People who talk what pro players whant or dissmis people on the “you are a noob” basis are haters.
Im not saying that is you but some of the responses here are just so agresiv from the start.
Look im not saying it in anyway my only argument is that its not broke or etc. It just helps new players and im ok with that.
(Maybe even remove it in higher elo idk.)

Im sure it could be done if devs thought it was the right way ( maybe name them scout “player number” and it could be possible) it was just a sugestion

It also affects lower level games. I’m 1000 elo and in my last match I killed my opponent’s scout and got a massive advantage because I was able to expand to the extra golds without him having any knowledge. I get that it can help noobs in the early game but when it’s scouting more of the map than even pros (used to) do in Feudal Age onwards - that is where it is unfair.

The devs can’t change the way the engine works. It is impossible to give a player specific LOS. There is probably a way to differentiate between the scouts but not between their exploration and wildlife’s. Interesting suggestion but unfortunately impossible.

Yeah but its not like he cant scout now that he lost it. You killed the scout so you deserve the advantage. And pro players do scout a lot and sure they miss some stuff sometimes but so does auto scout. Pros rather scout theyr oponets base to about castel age so they can counter and prep deff, and they dont need to scout other golds until theyr gold will run outh. But they do scout the map becous of so many games played they can mostly expect where relics and resources will be even thoe its random

Yeah, that’s the feature. Not something groundbreaking, but needed.

I think the really game changing part is (atelast for me) you can set now the flag on am enemy castle and qeue a treb which will attack it all on it self including all the packing.

How in intense deathmatch I always do this to pressure all kinds of sides with very little apm needed with some trebs.

Before I wasn’t able because my apm is limited. It is a change i have accepted and appreciate.

I hope they add the 5 min Auto scout limit. Early game auto scout isn’t really good but late hame it is such a jig advantage and broken. I don’t believe this was intended by the devs.

Auto farm punishes player that liked to actively have to think about keeping their eco going, including queing farms and I benefits the player that just focus on the fight and forget everything else. I don’t like this change at all. There is a hole thread about it so enough said.

You could always do that. Setting the gather point on an enemy castle and training a treb for it to automatically go attack that castle when trained is not something new on DE.

Most of the time, I play AOE2 anyway. For me personally it’s the superior game :smiley:

It’s just weird that your starting scout is kinda unique. Options for autoscouting would be ideal. They could go from “All Scout Units”, “Starting Scout”, “Time Limit” with some variety on this regard to “Disabled”. For the ranked game mode, I would suggest that it is always disabled.

Well gonna talk about my experience, Auto Scouting is fine in Campaigns and against AI which is seul in some cases, but other times I preer to manually scout because locating sheeps, boars mines and even harass my enemy is my first priority especially against other players.
