Auto Select Sentry Towers

Game Version: Premium
Build Number: v.100.18.46960.0 (571248R)
Platform: Steam
Operating System: Windows 11

Whenever I am in game, whether it’s campaign or skirmish, the game auto selects the nearest sentry tower when I select any unit. If I select a single unit or a group of units, it almost instantly selects the nearest sentry tower instead of what I selected. If I have no sentry towers constructed, the game works perfectly fine. I tried defaulting the hotkeys and verifying the game files. Is there anything else I should try?

It also does it in multiplayer. I realized it doesn’t necessarily happen when I select a single unit but it happens whenever I click and drag to select an area.

Same here - I get the exact same problem when I drag to select units or buildings, it jumps to the nearest sentry tower.

It’s terrible. You either can’t play or you have to play at a disadvantage without them.

Hi,
I’ve sent a message to the technical team along with a video showing the issue. I’m waiting for their resolution.

Update: I think I’ve managed to clarify the issue (I’ve been playing for 5 minutes and haven’t had this problem so far).

So, you need to go to the Steam directory (usually in “Program Files (x86)”). There, use Ctrl + F to search for “.cfg” and select the config.cfg file (it might also exist as “.ini”).

Rename the file config.cfg to config_old.cfg. Keep a backup of the original file in another directory, just in case.

For now, everything seems to be running fine.

I can’t seam to find any files named “config.cfg” or “config.ini”. Would uninstalling and reinstalling the game maybe help?

I am playing through Steam

Maybe, you can try this :

Could you try turning off Sticky Keys ? Try hitting Shift 5 times fast and disable Sticky Keys when the prompt pops up (Windows)

They are disabled. I don’t think I have ever had them turned on haha

You won’t find a .cfg file for Age of Mythology. On Steam/Retold, the settings are in XML files instead. Look for files like profile.xml, option.xml, or hotkeys.xml in your game folder.
Just make sure to check all the XML or INI files in the game folder, not a .cfg file (yeah I know, it’s boring).

Good luck ! :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed:

I found the same topic on the Steam forum :

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it just to make sure i had a fresh set of files. For me there are no .XML files, no .INI files, and four .cfg files called “game.cfg”, “production.cfg”, “locale.cfg”, and “development.cfg”. I know this is probably confusing since we clearly have some different things going on but I really appreciate your help!

So after uninstalling and reinstalling I went in game and unbound my hotkeys for finding towers (even though I didn’t really use hotkeys for anything) and it seemed to have worked. Thank you so much for all your help!

Nice !
Sometimes the simplest fixes do the trick !:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Have fun !
