Pikemen Problems
Neither of the two new civs utilized pikemen to any significant degree. Poland did not field pikemen other than as mercenaries from the west, and Denmark abolished pikemen decades earlier than most nations. Furthermore, the Pikemen of both civs are an excellent example of how to bungle a royal guard unit (the Poles because Scythemen deserve to be a unique unit, and the Danes because you can’t get any more lame than “Royal Pikeman”). There are also the Russians who correctly don’t have pikemen, but their equivalent unit is literally just a Lieutenant and not an actual type of soldier. All of these civs would greatly benefit from an alternative unit that fills the pikeman role.
Axeman Unit
Historical Usage
Axemen could be a very fitting regional unit that covers the archaic heavy melee infantry position for Danes, Poles, and Russians.
The iconic Dane axe was used by the viking ancestors of the Danes, and this weapon evolved into the Bondeøks which saw continued use by Norwegian militias well into the timeframe of AoE3. Bondeøksmann is also a much superior royal guard name than “Royal Pikeman”.
In Poland, axes were part of the kit of the piechota wybraniecka, and axes were a common Polish and Lithuanian weapon of earlier times. They also feature prominently in Polish heraldry and there’s opportunity for wordplay about Poleaxes.
The Russians have their signature Bardiche axes and axe wielding guards like the Rynda
Appearance
For Poland and Denmark, their axe wielding troops were peasant militias. As such, the unupgraded version should be relatively lightly armoured and wield a generic axe that would be available to peasants and the veteran upgrade could give them a bit more armour. The regular guard upgrade should arm them with a bardiche as this was used by both Russians and Poles. For the Danes, their royal guard upgrade should turn them into bondeøks axemen with that unique looking weapon.

Russians
Function
The role of this unit should fall somewhere between pikes and halbs and the cost and strength should be more like pikes. Maybe something like 15% resistance 3.5x multi versus cav, 11 attack, 4.75 speed, and other stats similar to pikes. They could even have slightly stronger siege capability pikes, but be limited to melee siege attacks like Macemen.
Axemen could also potentially lean even more towards the Halberdier side of the heavy infantry as Poruchiks are already like that and Danes and Poles could have other units take more of the anti-cav role. Poles could have Scythemen as a unique unit with more pike-like stats. The Danish royal guard for halbs could be Atgeirmaðr and it could give them a better anti-cav multiplier.
Cards
Axes are obviously a tool as well as a weapon and were used by troops for collecting supplies and building fortifications. A card that lets axemen chop wood and build structures is an obvious one.
The Norwegians took their fancy bondeøks to church to show them off, so a card/tech for Denmark that lets Axemen train from and/or garrison inside Round Churches could fit.
Russians could have a card that swaps the wood cost to coin to help alleviate their expense.
