For Ayyubids, the “Desert Raider” is a cavalry unit which can use either Melee or Ranged mode. It is both Melee Cavalry and a Mounted Archer.

If you get the “Silk Bowstrings” university upgrade, which gives +1 range to mounted archers, it will give the Ranged weapon +1 range, but also the Melee weapon +1 range.

You end up with 0.29 + 1 = 1.29 Melee range.
