Robots, ¿like the automaton you mean?
One aztecs dont have Warrior Woman but more than that why are they dressed like Mardi Gras dancers
There’s the burning of codices, for example, which destroyed much of the written history of the Mexica, along with other native cultures.
Personally, I don’t know many Aztec mythical creatures, and certainly there are some popular ones that are relevant because they’re Mexican, but not Aztec.
For example, there’s one that’s a very large spirit, over 2 meters tall, decapitated, which either terrifies people, or I think grants them abilities through cactus thorns, but I might be mixing myths; but honestly, it’s not very original or striking, and quite redundant considering that the Aztecs had Quinametzin, who played the role of a giant humanoid.
Or some famous ones, like La Llorona or El Charro Negro, which aren’t valid because they’re post-Hispanic, or the Chupacabra, which is 30 years old and was a government smokescreen.
Another example of redundancy would be in the nahual, which, although not exactly the same, we already have the likaon as humans who transform into animals. Of course, a nahual transforms completely into an animal, not into a furry. It would be a shame if there were no nahuales, but I could understand if they weren’t included.
I think the best thing would have been to adapt the creatures from the Return of the Gods mod.
Or that some of them aren’t aztec but mayan.
Or the Chupacabra, which was a media circus that, besides being only 30 years old, was a government invention to distract people while they saddled them with Fobaproa debt during the 1994 crisis.
Context: the 1994 economic crisis. Many banks and companies were going to close. The government, whose members had friends or even relatives of the owners of those companies, converted private debt into public debt, indebting México. That’s Fobaproa, a debt that mexicans are still paying, and which, with luck, we’ll carry until 2070, if it doesn’t increase and we don’t have to pay it for a century.
To distract people, they had the media invent and talk about the Chupacabra; so let’s just say that creature doesn’t count.
I’m mexican, and I don’t mind jaguar riders or them being women at all, but if they add the chupa cabras, I’ll be furious.
It would be nice to see Cipactli, but it looks more like a titan than a mythical unit. In my opinion, they would have been better off copying the Return of the Gods mod.
Who said they were gonna add chupacabras?? That’s a modern day urban legend that isn’t even based on anything Aztec. At least priestesses riding an animal sacred to them is feasible, as feasible as it is to make a civilization based on Atlantis.
My mistake was that someone posted a link to Mexican mythical creatures, and among them was the chupacabra, and I clarified that many creatures on the list are not compatible with the game, like that smoke screen with monster skin.
I would be happy if the Egyptian “scarabs” (which are actually deer beetles) were replaced with other creatures, or at least with real scarabs. Egypt should also change the Scorpio Man, he does not belong to Egyptian mythology.Turtle and Leviathan are also superfluous. Of the ordinary warriors, Egypt has the superfluous ones: camel riders and elephants - but this is the least of all the problems. But Egypt will not be changed anymore, since this is the pantheon from the original game. I would like the new pantheon of the Aztecs to be at least plausible…
i agree with that.
i also agree the majority of what PadtheLad12 wrote.
i understand you but this doesn’t make much sense. if others take the liberty to being not consistent and more fantasy then others should have that freedom too. i hope you understand this point of view aswell.
if i would want to play a much more grounded and historical accurate game i would play AoE but here i am playing only AoM - personally speaking ofc.
Renaming certain units would help fix this. For example, renaming the Leviathan to Medjed, the sacred fish.
Based on what they’ve shown lately, the chupacabra seems like a much more worthy unit to me.
I think people are being overly harsh with this expansion. Maybe its because it’s been so request, that people have built it up in their heads to a standard that cannot be met in-game. But we have mostly only seen art. So are people upset with the art direction?
Remember, we know nothing about their favor system, their technologies, their god powers, special mechanisms etc. There is so much potential still. Wait until something is confirmed and then offer constructive criticism. I’m honestly surprised by the level of heat this expansion is getting ![]()

Meu Deus! Quanto choro por causa de uma civilização, e detalhe nem vimos o gameplay dela para podermos criticar! Esperem pelo menos isso.
Vão fazer carinho no gato, cachorro, pisar numa grama.
