Hmmm… I don’t think I can help much, beyond explaining things that might be confusing. But I’d suggest you prioritize getting comfortable with the controls first, beyond just the knowledge of them. That way, when you decide what to do, you don’t have to think about which controls to use for that.
I recommend that you practice against the most difficult AI that you have a reasonable chance of beating, you’ll learn which one that is by playing against them. There is a massive difference in difficulty between the easiest AI and the hardest, there are even large jumps in difficulty between two adjacent difficulties. If you find one difficulty is too easy while the next is too hard, you might try changing maps, game modes, number of AI, or various other settings.
The key thing to remember is to play to have fun.
Welcome to AOE2, the game is fun, engrossing and required lots of time till you get a hang of things. It’s like starting a new part time job if you are short on time.
I played the William Wallace colampaigns as well, then one by one all the others. Mongol ones might seem tough. But these will help you stay focussed on goals.
If U have Romans DLC, Romans will be a good pick to start playing. U will have less pressure on economy for everything.
For ranked, U might find out cavalry is pretty amazing. So use franks and don’t play all techs mode.
You can play all techs as franks. It’ll show what difference civ bonus makes.
If you don’t mind being unorthodox, pick hindustanis. They have discount on villagers. So it’s a smooth start. But I would not encourage it.
If you don’t find a player here, maybe you could watch T90 series on youtube about his uncle picking up the game. He talks about common mistakes starters make and how to improve.
If you are more familiar with the game then you could try to watch Spirit of the Law, however he got so many video’s I can imagine that could also be intermediating…
