This patch and its 8 crossbow bug for French and Malta amongst other things may be resulting in less ranked matches

We have had a general uptick in games being played from the free to play patch back in August. Possible from returning players of from people buying the game after free to playing it? idk.
It then has held steady since the most recent patch where it has started dropping. Might be a temporary thing. Hard to say
Interesting too cause aoe3 was just on sale.
Ideally we should get a small bump as players buy and introduce themselves to ranked. Prehaps the f2p boost wears off but i wonder if french and malta play rates tanked as well.

That’s why people don’t want to risk having a bad match because of that shipment. Against Rush civilizations like Aztec and Russia you need 8 crossbows. France was my most played civilization in ranked. Right now I’ve only used it 1 time since the patch came out, luckily I am not OTP like other players, even Andrew who plays France 24/7 is not using it
We are seeing a significant drop off in games with France at higher elos.
Keep in mind, 1700+ is less than 10% of all games played on rank. And this patch only has around 20% of the total amount of games that were played last patch so far.
Edit: Malta does not have this same trend, being more or less the same as it was prepatch
