As a alternative of buffing janissaries for sb to fight elephant civs
Il Sel… umm YUKSLEY has gone kinda quiet l. Pretty sus. In any case late game is not when Turks suffer, its post-late game when it’s trash wars and +1 pierce armor doesn’t matter any more compared to a lack of castle age foot trash access
I feel that Castle age camels are pretty fine, however they don’t scale as well into Imperial as other units do. I think for their costs, they should either be a bit better generalists or beat Cavalry more convincingly.
That being said, I don’t think they are terrible, I just think there are slightly off, from where I would like them. I think like +1 attack and maybe bonus damage against Elephants would suffice.
Heavy camels in imperial age should better than camels in castle age, and the main problem in imperial age is that gold is running out, which is the same problem as for other gold units. Heavy camels are:
- better against paladins (8 hits vs 10 hits to kill) than camels against knights (10 hits vs 12 hits to kill, and knight attack faster than paladins),
- better against hussars (4 hits vs 18 hits to kill) than camels against light cav (6 hits vs 18 hits to kill)
- better against imperial age skirmishers (6hits vs 40 hits) than camels against castle age skirmishers (5hits vs 47 hits)
- better against arbalesters (5 hits bs 24 hits) than camels against crossbowmen (6hits vs 24 hits)
- Worse against champions (10 hits vs 10 hits) than camels against longswords (12 hits vs 14 hits)
And should stay far from pikemen/halberdiers as always.
Their problem is that they are not a power unit, they are a gold-costing melee counter unit. In 1v1 we want to spam trash late game, and in team game we want to spam a power unit and let allies counter our power unit counter with their own power unit.
It’s just that sometimes in TG you feel like you’re in for a rough time if you have to fight elephants, and besides, the camels seem to have found the right balance with a bonus attached to them.
And generally buffing camels is absolutely out of the question.
I’ve finished Tamar campaign yestarday and in mission 4 those saracens wiped the floor with me by spamming camels and mamlucks, when I tried to rely on cavalry, as Georians are supposed to. So, camels are not horrible.
Its an open map unit - 1.6 speed and a huge bonus damage vs other mounted units.
