In AoE2 I prefer the tactics missions without base building. Afte AoK every mission was a mission with base camp building even the newer ones. In AoE4 would like to have missions like Fire Emblem maps.
I also do like those tactics missions, but not too much or put directly after each other. I guess you have never played Age Of Empires Online. That version had a lot of tactical missions without any base building involved. It also learns you all the necessary skills with training missions.
