Can anyone lose a game purely because of a civilization disadvantage?

Considering the HP bonus of Saracen camel units, plus the cavalry-shredding Mamelukes at a distance, and I who plays Magyars often, had a match against my cousin who went Saracens today. I massed all Cav Archers, and he went all out on Camels and Mamelukes, and my cav archers got vaporized by my cousin’s camel units.

Can anyone lose a game purely over a bad civilization match? It’s apparent that Magyars has absolutely no option against Saracens.

Map is highlands, and my cousin has galleys early on.

Arbalester is probably your best option here, probably with Hussar/Magyar Huszar as well. There’s no such thing as an unwinnable civ matchup though (assuming that it’s a mostly standard map). You might just have to make something happen.

Maybe nagyars should play feudal age. Even in late game magyar CA is pretty good vs saracens camels if you have a meat shield. But if you go to super late game with choke point and walls then magyar has no answer to saracens .

In late game there are a lot of unwinnable matchups. Some civs are just bad at late game. Especially if the map is arena, blackforest, etc. But on open land map it is quite balanced.

Btw there are unwinnable water match up too some civs are really bad at water.

I believe the answer is no - everyone (even pro players) will always have a way that they can play better. Even on water maps, a terrible water civ can overcome a superb water civ by transporting vils and making the game messy on land (with a tower rush or other aggressive strategy).

In this case, Magyars are stronger early game, with options like a strong scout rush, a MAA rush. They can fight the early galleys with fire galleys. You’d want to fight in Feudal (since Saracens are pretty generic in Feudal - only bonus is their market bonuses and their team bonus - while Magyars have cheaper scouts and free forging). Be aggressive and snowball your advantage.

Halb + Paladin do well against camels because camels do so little to the halbs and die so fast to them. Likewise halb-arbalest would have been good.

You can’t think of a game like “Saracens make camels and Magyars make cav/cav archers therefore Magyars lose”. There are timings, I think it was king of the desert 4 I remember Berbers often lost to Tatars because they couldn’t get the camel archers built in time to deal with the Tatars.

Probably one of the closest matchups to being completely one-sided there is Aztecs vs Dravidians. The Dravidians completely dominate, as they have an answer to every single one of the Aztec options.
