Beta worked fine. Now I downloaded the whole game. When I try to start it, steam shows it’s running, aoe2de picture is showing on the desktop but no window opens and the game won’t start, no matter how long I wait. Please help.

I’m unsure if you did that, but maybe you should follow his steps and then (with everything clean): download the whole game again and try to see if the bug persist.

You can also try launching the game directly, instead of through the Steam client, to see if your error message changes.
