Hello,
I’d like to propose an idea that could add some fun to the game. What if civilizations had access to (castle) trebuchets in the Castle Age? These trebuchets could be countered by fully upgraded castles or towers (range: 8 + 2 with blacksmith upgrades).
To balance this addition, the Castle Age trebuchets would have slightly less HP and only 10 range. They would also receive bonus damage from defensive structures such as towers and castles.
This proposal would not introduce excessive complexity to the game and would not be overpowered since it can be easily countered by a well-placed defensive structure.
In early imp it can be very powerfull like turk who have instant access to bombard cannon.
Like camel scout, they will transform to regular trebuchet in imp.
What are your thoughts on this idea?
What’s the point of Treb that is countered by defense structure which they meant to counter?
Against Civ that doesn’t go range (Cav Civ) and hope that Castle will not have range upgrade?
If just for normal structure, ram or arson infantry should be enough.
Trebs are balanced so that they outrange everything (with the possible exception of other trebs), but have an awful mobility. If they do not outrange defensive structures, what’s the point ?
Maybe make it a traction trebuchet (much weaker than the counterweight trebuchet that we have) with 12 range, but even then a traction trebuchet is what an historically accurate mangonel should look like instead of an antique torsion catapult (torsion springs were no longer used as made impotent by humidity).
Still that would be a significant departure from the current castle age meta of using mainly rams. And giving it to some civs but not others…
