Change local player name for single player

As the title suggests, can we have a feature for changing player name for local single player games (campaign or skirmish) within the game options?

I know this has been asked before, and can be done currently by changing your Steam display name, but it’s cumbersome and you have to restart the game each time. A simple option within the game like original AoE 2/HD would be great to have and likely not difficult to implement.

I would like to have this feature too.

It’s immersion-breaking for me to play with different civilizations with the same name.

Further than that, I’d say a player should be able to assign nicknames to their friends / clan members too.
