Chevauleger or war wagons (Germans)

Hello friends, I recently discovered the card Princely Bavarian Chevaulegers for the Germans and i think they are cool. In the non-definitive edition of age 3 I played mostly the Dutch, so they remind me of Ruyters and I spammed Ruyters as a mad man back in the day  . My question is do you guys think they are a good replacement for war wagons in this case (I play mostly treaty 30 or 40 minutes) they are less expensive and need only 2 population on the other hand they lack on health, and they are more expensive than my beloved Ruyters that needed only 30 food for production, so maybe is not going to be exactly the same spam as in the Dutch scenario. What are your opinions, guys do you have experience using this unit ?

i think comparing them to ruyters is a bit missleading, i usually think of them as dragoons(+). The decission on using warwagons or chevaulegers depends mostly on your enemy civ. Since warwagons have melee resist, are slow and do a lot of damage per shot (overkills a lot) i would use them against high hp cav civs, like french or india (elephant). I also like, that they have a giant unit modell, so u can hide artillery and skirmishers among them - sadly it can also leed to pathfinding issues. But all in all i prefere chevaulegers; they are fast, dont overkill as much, are only 2 pop and have a decent melee attack(!); the only big downside for me is, that you are using a card slot so idk if its worth it in treaty everytime

War wagon for life, they have more life and more damage I don’t care about the cost. This means that they really hurt everything if micro well and above all in 4 they are very strong, also they hide well the units such as skirm and cannons making the micro difficult, if you put the war wagon melee they will shoot having a melee attack so they do out the cavalry very easily.

Chevaulegers for me, they’re more flexible since they’ve got a strong melee attack and since they have a range resist they’re harder to snipe with skirmishers.

But you can get a few War Wagon first, then get the chevs since they won’t replace them like the landwehr or ranger card.

Same, though in some match ups war wagons are ok like vs french.

Thanks for the reply, my friend and for the tip about war wagons as you mentioned landwehr what is your opining about them and do you use them i personally cant see the positive side of this card maybe if i play treaty and my gold is stagnant is good because they cost wood but isn’t it that crosbowmen are better i mean they have more bonus damage and landwehr have bigger base damage from what i know this is the only difference isn’t it that bonus damage is better in most cases ?

Crossbowmen are only better at dealing with dragoon type units, for everything else landwehr is better and you still have access to skirmishers.

Also they’re gunpowder units and riflemen so they benefit from counter-infantry rifling and paper cartridge (+15% attack) upgrades and flint lock (+10% hp) crossbowmen only benefit from infantry cuirass (+10% HP) from the arsenal .

Landwehr are better than skirmishers in damage and you can just spam them and dump your coin into more valuable units. They also act as a psuedo musketeer
