Habsburg austrian cavalry was a unique cavalry that dominated battefield for some time. The Paladin is kind of a âfrankâ design right now in the game, with a shield and a sword, while you could have an austrian variation with more coat of arms legit and another horse type more fitting Austria for example. It was more of an idea more than a goto, as I had hard time finding ideas for the civ bonus.
About the team bonus, I found no idea that matched the austria history except the multilinguism / expansive empire, thatâs why the relic bonus idea came. But I wasnât sure that any other civ already had it yet.
Itâs more Germany for the Landsknecht, while Habsburg were known for their Heavy Cavalry. The Swiss revolted against them and won against their heavy knight by throwing trunks at them bascially, like the ewoks in star wars 6 but medieval version.
I found nothing about the trade aspect on what I read, but Iâm not an expert of Austria / Habsburg history, I just know that my country rebelled against them rekting their heavy knights in the swiss forest valley of idk where cause sadly we did not studied that much our own history at school, which is a shame.
The Landsknecht is not meant to be a UU too, itâs more of an Halberdier replacement, they were levied people, not necessarly professional soldiers, and meant to be massed in huge formations. So to me not meant for a Unique Unit design. The Morgenstern Rider is way more logic as heavy cavalry was more rare than mass of pike-armed pesants, and also itâs a unit type we donât have ingame yet, a mace cavalry unit.
Historically Iâm not sure about exactly who started the Landsknecht but it was more austrian used it too because they were very close to the germany ruling power of that time. I would have seen the Landsknecht more as a team bonus mercenary unit for a german civ but we already got teutons so hard to put them anywhere.
However itâs right that two special cavalry unit is maybe too much.
But look how cool those guys are: (would be the morgenstern rider)
And for the more âhistorical recordâ we got of heavy habsburg cavalry, itâs on a painting of the battle of Grandson where you can see those knights:
Kind of heavy armoured coustiller design variant with shock spears instead of slashing polearms.
Anyway itâs just a random idea ! That could be just some editor units added for campaign / historic battle too.
