encourages the defender to delete their own buildings at the last moment, to deny the last hit and 50 gold. i don’t think that’s fun gameplay.
It’s also why i think that all these “get experience/resources on kill”-mechanics are bad. When a group of skirms is caught out by a group of jaguar warriors, the best play is to delete the skirms. Who thinks this is fun gameplay?
I literally cannot agree more. This is especially true with buildings. Sure it’s way harder to micro delete away from Jags or Mapuche horses but a building takes way way longer to kill a building.
I usually add a stipulation to the kill for reward and it’s something along the lines of “the unit sets the building on fire causing super minimal damage over a minute and if destroyed during the burn debuff the player gets their reward. This prevents a few things: one if you are trying to destroy a building with a specific unit sometimes a UU it probably has to contend with competing for last hit with some sort of powerful siege weapon or even a siege boat. Let alone if it’s a team game you gotta also possibly coordinate with allies.
But yeah this feels like it’s begging for that deny mechanic early mobas would allow you to kill your own minions to prevent the enemy from getting gold as is and I’m not a big fan of it!
Instead of getting resources on kill, it should be done while fighting (like Keshik). This way there’s no incentive to kill one’s own units to deny resources.
yeah, this is definitely better. However there can still be situations where the damage your units will deal is so small that it’s not worth fighting back. eg it’s better to delete skirms, rams, vils, etc when facing keshiks. I think this is not how the game should work.
Tiger Cav will be better example here. As JW will at least be injured. Tiger Cav will straight up get more HP than before killing the skirms as it regenerate 10 HP per kill and skirms barely deal any damage to Tiger Cav.
Unfortunately we have 2 units and 2 civs with this mechanics now - JW and Tiger Cav, Vikings UT and Mapuche Cavalry. I think devs are loving this mechanic. So I will probably keep the mechanics but limit it to only Cavalry and maybe a lot less gold as well.
yeah, that’s an even better example of what I mean. I have not engaged witht he 3K units, as I don’t give a shit. Feels like that unit confirms my stance
Unfortunately I think you are right. Imo it’s another case where the devs don’t understand what makes the fun game, and are ruining it by adding stupid mechanics and pointless gimmicks.
