Civilization Idea: Yoruba

Oh got it we can’t draw from the Ile Ife from the 1100s though

That’s a shame, although there must be something to it… the architecture in Dark Age and Feudal Age should be Ife-Ife/Ife Empire, in Castle Age something more pre-Oyo, and in Imperial, then yes, Oyo Empire (the fact that the architecture is anachronistic wouldn’t be such a problem if the Slavs also use 17th-century Imperial architecture)…

Why can’t it just be some sort of either Sahara or Southern African structure for a shared set

Yes, they could also use the existing African architecture and that’s it… you can extend it to the Kongolese, Shona, Sudanese, Swahili, etc., etc… since it’s Sudano-Sahelian/Sub-Saharan architecture that was used throughout West Africa, and if you count the Ethiopians, all of East Africa… at most you can put 10 African civilizations there and then, as a last resort, you can add another architecture later on…

Eastern Africa: Ethiopia, Somalians, Nubians… Egypt?

Sahara: Mali, Songhai, Kanem, Bornu, Hausa, Ghana, Mossi

Southern Africa: Yoruba, Zimbabwe, Kongolese, Swahili

Yes, that would be the idea…you put 10 civilizations into one architecture set and when you reach 15 civilizations you split them into 5 each in their respective set (North Africa should continue to use the Middle Eastern set as now, that would include Kanemites, Egyptians and Sudanese/Nubians too)…West Africa would use the current African set (Mali, Songhai, Yoruba/Beninese, Hausa and Kongo) and East Africa would use another set call it “Somali” (Ethiopians, Somalians, Swahili, Shona, etc.)

Yoruba should have a much more significant religious bonus. They should be a spiritual powerhouse, as they are the epicentre of a religion that has influenced other religions worldwide.

Turks are not just the Ottomans. look at campaign appearances and AI leaders

And there were Yorubites before the Oyo

These don’t really look like good fits most of the time… The current African set doesn’t really align with what Yoruba and Beninese built like, nor the Kongolese. It might comfortably fit the Kanembu though.

A hypothetical East African set lumping together the Somali and Swahili coastal Saracen-like coral architecture with the stone forts of the Shona and other inland Bantu peoples would look be a really jarring mix, even weirder than the existing South American set.

Yes, it’s complicated… I’m sure they’ll come up with something (I think the same about South American architecture, it’s basically Inca architecture, since it’s the same as AoE 3 and it’s super rare that the other South American civilizations have it)… in Wars of Liberty, a mod of classic AoE 3, at least the Tupi share architecture with the Hauds and the Mapuche with the Lakota…

Do you think Bombard Towers will allow this civ to somewhat catch up in the late game? I did already give them access to them; just curious.
