Civilization‑unique alcohol‑themed Home City cards

Poland already has the Age‑1 home‑city card Vodka Distillery instead of generic Rum Distillery. I think it would be great to give more European civs culturally‑fitting unique alcohol‑themed economic cards, replacing the generic Rum Distillery for better flavour and mild civ identity, without breaking overall balance.

1. For Russia

Replace existing Rum Distillery with Vodka Distillery (Age I).

Same baseline effect as Poland’s Vodka Distillery. Historical fit: vodka is deeply tied to Russian cultural and economic history.

France – new card: Champagne (Age I) (replaces Rum Distillery)

Champagne (Home City Card, Age I)

Plantation coin gathering speed +20 %. Additionally, every French villager working on plantations passively generates a small continuous trickle of XP.

Design notes:

  • The +20 % plantation coin bonus stays identical to Rum Distillery, so baseline economic strength remains unchanged compared to the original generic card.
  • XP comes as a slow per‑villager passive trickle only when villagers are assigned to plantations. No raw resource gain. More villagers on plantations yield more XP, encouraging France’s historic plantation‑luxury‑trade playstyle.

General concept for further civs (quick brainstorm)

Following this template, other nations could get their own themed alcohol cards in future updates:

  • Germans: Brewery (beer‑focused economic bonus)
  • Spanish: Sherry Bodega

This change is mostly flavour‑first, preserves balance, makes each civilization feel more distinct. Would love to hear community thoughts.

Love this idea, I think it’s really fun.

Americans: Whiskey Rebellion: Every Saloon and Mill spawns 3 Cowboys.

Japanese: Sake Izakayas: Sends 1 Tavern Wagon. Villagers working at Rice Paddies always produce a small Coin trickle (whether the Paddy is on Food or Coin).

Maltese: Cistercian Orders: 1 Church Wagon and +1 Church Build Limit. Priests can gather from Berries and Mills. Churches give a small food trickle.

British

Grog
Enables Jack Tars - blue uniform & cap versions of the new Sailor unit - trained at Taverns and Docks. Removes Outlaw tag. Shorter range but more powerful than Sailor. Jack Tars are the nickname for Victorian British Sailors. Seems a good fit as the gun the Sailor model is armed with is the Nock Gun which was a British multi barrel firearm that was in service for 22 years or so.

Rum Punch (cost Coin)
Ship a Tavern Wagon and ups the Tavern limit. Taverns are now named Punch Houses and can train upgraded Pirates, called Freebooters which have a charged pistol shot ability. Rum Punch was the go-to beverage of choice for Pirates, Freebooters, Logwood Cutters from the British Isles who buccaneered in the Caribbean during the 17th century.

IPA
Changes Militiamen (both on screen and the training button) to Royal Marines (similar to US Marine unit though more expensive). Indian Pale Ale was a British ale with extra hops and higher alcohol content to survive the long trip to colonial India. Who else had to survive long trips to India by sea? The Royal Marines!

Did I just try to shoehorn British Naval nods? Yes.
Did I just want these nods to mainly be about units? Yes

I mean even if that’s the case, it’s further justification that the British were rather navy-focused and it’s a shame that’s not touched upon that much - the fact that all these drinks are literally all linked to British piratical to Victorian naval super power means something at least
