Civilizations Timeline [Season 11]

Hey y’all,

Wanted to share my design for a timeline of aoe4’s civilizations. The dates are taken from the in-game information (I believe they’re under the Learn tab, but you can also find them in the match lobby, when hovering in the civilization select dropdown).

They don’t always line up with the full historical dates, reflecting specific eras the devs picked. (Chinese start year is the last year of the Tang Dynasty, for example)

Some variants are too short-lived to show up as a full flag (OotD and JdA, I expect at least one of the Dynasty of the East DLC civ to be similar), And some variants simply use the parent civ duration, like Ayyubids even though you could place Ayyubids as a specific era of the Abbasid Empire (1171–1260).

I’ll publish an updated version for the DLC release!

Yes, it would be like this:

  1. Macedonian Dynasty (867-1056)

  2. Golden Horde (1259-1380)

  3. Tughlaq Dynasty (1320-1413)

  4. Sengoku Daimyo (1467-1615)

How could ZhuXi’s legacy started in 907. He was born in 1130…

That’s what is listed on the “Learn” tab for Zhu Xi’s Legacy:

I wouldn’t think too hard about this one. The entire variant is based around being an alt-history China. Trying to tie it to real world events is going to lead directly to confusion.

I like the design, it’s quite open to discussion.

In fact, I once made a timeline, and I’ve updated it periodically with new civs. It’s not as accurate on some dates, and is more focused on dividing the civs by the periods they represent.

Something important to note is that most variants take up “less” time than the main base civs, with the exception of ZhuXi due that it also share the Dynasty system (Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming).

Hey nice chart as well!

It’s cool to see this kind of info as well

Waiting on DLC release to include these.
I’ll stick to whatever the in-game dates are. We already have Gamescom screenshots with the dates on them, where Golden Horde and Sengoku Daimyo share the parent civs dates actually. I’ll wait to see if this gets changed in the final build.

Nice work
Very educational indeed!

Yes, they’ll have to change that…the variants last much less than the parent civs…the dates I put are the ones that appear on Wikipedia and the AoE wikia…

New version is here
