Civiliztions- A new concept ----- [Sub-Civilizations]

This should definitely be the civilization list for AoE IV.

This idea sounds nice but it would only really be manageable if the differences are relatively small like the different main gods in AoM.
Multiple different sub Civs should only have 2-3 differences.
Maybe a unique unit, a unique tech or one modifier.
Different sub civs need to have the same play style and be culturally similar enough. Makes it hard for unique civs like Hungarians (Magyars) because they are very different to their neighbours.

China, Japan and Korea are culturally and militarily very different. Making them into sub civs would make it either too different to be worth being sub civs or to similar to capture their unique cultures.
Japan isn’t China minus Chu-Ko-Nu plus Samurai.

Making China the main civ and Wei, Shu and Wu the sub civs makes more sense. They existed at the same time (Three Kingdoms period) and they are all Chinese. They still have cultural differences that could make them unique while make the differences manageable. This could make the famous Chu-Ko-Nu be a unique unit of one of those sub civs.
Sub civs could even be something you choose an age up to age 2/3 making it a strategic choice and an option to surprise you opponent.

If China would be based on the later Tang empire it would be hard to split into sub civs.

Maybe sub civs should be a campaign/editor only thing (Maybe allowed in private matches if the host allows it). This way they don’t need to be balanced.

The concept of civilizations and sub-civilizations is interesting. All subcivilizations belonging to the ame civilization share the same tech tree till castle age including the castle age UT and a common 1st unique unit. In Imperial Age, the tech tree starts to differ, a 2nd unqiue tech starts and a 2nd unique unit which is more specialised.

Talking with respect to AoE2 and Steppe Civilizations:
Tatars, Cumans and Mongols.
Same tech tree till Castle Age.
A building like Krepost provides a unique unit - Steppe Lancer, only available to these 3.
Krepost also provides a Unique tech shared between these three. Let us say, it is Silk Armor - Light Cavalry and Cavalry Archer units +1/+1 armor.
When we talk about Krepost, it costs 350 stone and is much more affordable than Castle. The krepost also costs almost same as Monastery + Siege Workshop, which are usually built to advance to Imperial Age, incentivising the UU and Castle Age UT.

In Imperial Age:
A Fortress which costs 650 stone is unlocked which provides a different UU and different UT for the three different civs, adding to the diversity in the later stages.

Why aren’t the developers adding more Indian civilizations? The Nepalese, the Marathas, The Sikhs, The Tirhutiyas, The Ahoms, The Cholas would all have been great options. How can the developers be contacted or the the idea be raised till them?

I already had this idea for the HRE specifically becaus eit unites maaany kindoms. It would have been nice but I belive from what we saw, we wont get that. because the chinese feature of choosing a dynasty would be similr to this concept, and - they wanted civs to be unique.

Oh sorry didnt realize the thread was necored to add indians

Kahazars were semi-nomadic Turkic people whose partly converted to Judaism. Their Kings’ letter starts like that: " * *THE LETTER OF JOSEPH THE KING, SON OF AARON THE KING, THE TURK-MAY HIS CREATOR PRESERVE HIM TO THE HEAD OF THE ASSEMBLY, HASDAI, THE SON OF ISAAC, SON OF EZRA". You can search that as ā€œKhazar correspondenceā€.

Bonus: "Sons of Seljuk (warlord whose sons invaded modern day Iran and Anatolia) had Jewish names as they had good relations with Khazars and it is assumed they were high ranked officers in Khazar army.

Vietnam deserves alone Civ indeed, I hope to see detailed East Asian DLC in the future.

this one should be titled ā€œhow do I offend as many cultures as possible with a single postā€

Perhaps you have confused it with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, where the Slavs prevailed.

But there are many muslim and European civilizations already, the subcontinent is too diverse too be put into a single civ
