Issue:
On the biomes that have clouds casting shadows, these shadows on the ground do not look stable. Whenever the camera moves away from the buildings, the shadows become much larger and more intense. Conversely, whenever a building enters the field of view, all cloud shadows become smaller and less intense. With frequent camera movement, this creates a “blinking” effect that (for me) causes significant eye strain. It doesn’t seem to depend on graphics setting; happens no matter what settings I try.
If this problem cannot be fixed or it is considered a feature, adding an option in the settings to disable cloud shadows for every biome would be a great alternative
Trigger Event:
It is persistent on any biome that has clouds casting shadows. For example “Taiga summer”, “Asian Subtropical”, “Gobi Desert” and most others have the problem. The only biomes I know that don’t have this issues (due to absence of cloud shadows) are: “Winter” and “Enchanted Grove”. There may be some others from the dlcs i don’t own and cannot test.
Repro Steps:
- In the settings, set “Screen edge pan speed” on 25% and turn “Enable pan Acceleration” on. It doesn’t affect the issue but makes it more noticeable.
- Create a skirmish game.
- Set “Map State” to “Revealed” . (This doesn’t affect the issue but makes it more noticeable).
- Set “Biome” to “Asian Subtropical”, for example. (This happens on any biome that has clouds casting shadows).
- Start the game.
- Move the camera away from the TC and then back to it a couple of times.
- Notice how the shadows of clouds on the grounds morph and become more intense as the camera moves away from the TC, and less intense as camera moves back to TC. This occurs with any other building as well.
