XBOX / PS5 Players

The game is virtually unplayable for anyone on controller. Load into a ranked game on the ladder and you will lose a teammate or an opponent due to crash somewhere 15-20minutes in. Some players from the controller community state that Xbox Series S is experiencing less issues than other Series/PS5

:backhand_index_pointing_down: Crashing back to XBOX home screen every game that is played. Roughly around mid castle age 15-20min when more actions are being made. Has happened in several games involving old civs, no new civs being played.

:play_button: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

:backhand_index_pointing_down: How often does the issue occur? CHOSE ONE; DELETE THE REST !

  • 100% of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS)

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Load into a game with a Xbox series X

  2. Play 15-20 minutes

  3. Enjoy your home screen

I could play the game

Close your eyes for me and imagine you are playing the game, and then suddenly you are perusing the Xbox Home Screen.

Prior to the update, I have not experienced crashes or even disconnecting in over a year.

Since the update, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, lowered every graphic setting, and removed mods and deleted any saved data/add ons. Problem still persists.

I posted on here and Reddit about series x crashes before the newest DLC. The issue appears to be the same but now many more people are experiencing it.

Yeah it’s definitely a console thing. I can’t speak for PS5 but you’ve obviously confirmed it. I should add it’s not just controller. You can play mouse and keyboard on the cross play ladder and experience the same thing. Also the game lags so much now too.

Playing matches online on Xbox is nearly impossible. I have a crash or someone else on the other team does 90% of the time. I hope they don’t take long to fix this because its truly a pain to play 40mins and have the game abruptly dashboard you.

Same Issue here on Xbox Sereies X (Controller Control), It’s definitely related to the update.

I play with keyboard and mouse on Xbox. It’s definitely not related to controllers, but the platform. Playing on PC works perfectly.

The bug seems to be fixed.

We played several rounds yesterday (February 25, 2026) and the game didn’t crash.

The bug is not fixed, I crashed probably 4 of 6 games yesterday.

The bug is NOT fixed. Lowering resolution seems to help, but still crashes. Please FIX!

It is not fixed but my brother and I found a small work around….posted this elsewhere.

I have this same issue. A work around is to save the game around minute 17 and then wait for the crash. Reload the game and it should be fine. We always safe again around minute 30 just to be safe. If there is an invisible building then save again immediately and reload. I agree that we shouldn’t have to do all of this but if we want to play then this is the current solution, I guess.

That is good, but does not work on the ranked ladder. Only in custom unranked games can you save and reload
